Is it possible to without knowing it recieve emotions from the television, because if i am watching a tv show and there is like a funeral or somethng then i will just get an overwelming feeling of sadness, and if i look around the room, i cant tell if anyone else is feelign lyk that

Well...I think no... but I also have the same problem. I think an empath by nature is very sensitive towards emotions and anything strong enough like a funeral can bring you over the edge.

this is an interesting idea, i think it would work. as that sorta thing has been proven in experiments, but not empathy.. oh wait it happened to me , but i think it was bceuase when you see war/funeral you instantly see/think people dyeing, and you arnt human you wouldnt cry at that..

I must not be human then... Musty be the fact I'm trained in stuff like that... "Who cares if I speak, if I feel. I'm a soldier, here to fight, and nothing else." Good quote.

I couldn't cry until I turned 18, that's the first time I tried it. I get empathy from the TV and computers (websites, IM conversations) on a regular basis. If I didn't receive an empathy type connection from the TV I don't think I would actually watch it.

i get very strong emotions from sport events even if i'm not intrested in them just watching for a minute or so....
also remember that you also have emotions and not everything you feel is someone's else. The thing is that you are more sensitive to feelings so even small things may have a greater impact on you.

there are 2 types of empathy, sympathetic empathy, and psychic empathy.
sympathetic empathy = I see you are crying and it makes me sad. psychic empathy = you are in your room crying ,I am not even aware you are in the house, and I suddenly feel sad.
most likely it's sympatheic empathy you are feeling - I doubt the tv cares about what it's playing =p if it's psychic empathy you are feeling, then it's also postcognition, verry few things get played live.

I think you have to take into account that movies and shows are specifically designed to cause emotions. Everybody feels emotions from a TV show, book, etc. (I know I do and my friends do, so I think everybody does)
Anyway, it could be empathy. But it might not be. There's just no way to be sure

i agree with shiryu...but it sounds more like sympathetic empathy.

I think you can. I can get emotions off of television, but it may just be a coincidence. Sometimes, though, I know I can feel pain - like I was watching Ripley's Believe it or Not and there was a couple who would put hooks on their back and suspend themselves in air, and I could feel the needles in my back when aI saw that - but it maybe coincidental. It may be a natural sensitivity empaths have to emotions like JediKaren said.
