It is safest to not summon things, as it can make them quite angry at you. I suggest that you simply become friends with an entity and ask it to come to you if you need something. However, don't expect things to listen to you all the time, as they may need to do something, not feel like running around, and other such things. In addition, keep in mind that they might need help at times too.
Now back to the topic... Pet-constructs are actually quite useful if you make them as an attempt to do certain things. Take a look at some of the posts about my Guardian/Taskmaster constructs for an example.
