Okay, bear with me here. Has anyone heard the song "Into the Rush" by Aly and Aj? Doesn't it sound like it's for psions, like what tkman was talking about? tkman, I'm going to try to find the song so I can see what you're talking about.

I usually listen to songs by America. It just has that 'stop brain from thinking' effect. But I feel like typing more, so I'll list the songs for you, you lucky people!
~A Horse with No Name ~Sandman ~Ventura Highway ~Tin Man ~Lonely People ~Sister Golden Hair ~California Dreamen' ~You Can Do Magic ~The Border
Not that I limit myself to these - they just seem to work.
Random sidenote: Hey, ILuveEire, I saw the lyrics below your pic - love that song!

Ah, Mike Oldfield, one of my favourites. I love him. Weightless is my favourite, also the Tubular Bells, which so happens to be the theme to The Exorcist :-) Go check out my AMV's in the Artists Corner!!! I did some awesome work.

Why rock? Why not something relaxing? Music changes my mood greatly, i.e. i'm listening to system of a down then i suddenly start typing almost 200 wpm. But then, i start listening to Mike Oldfield, then i start to type about 70. So, i think smooth music is better, because hard rock would most likely kick me out of meditation -_-

anyone ever hear of klaus schulze? His music is really good/chill. Some other i listen to while meditating are;
mum, leftfield, concord dawn, goldie, gabor deutch, zone 6, and whatever jazz you can find, heheh
music with words or a heavy beat tends to distract me most of the time

As a musician I find music to be quite distracting while meditating. However, I have found significant luck with light ambient music that has no words (any kind of singing distracts me and makes me focus in on the message isntead of the feeling).
I listen to pretty much anything on my website while I meditate (http://www.getyourgrooveon.com/firesickle) as it is all New Age style Techno with no vocal parts. (I rely on my melodies to tell the story)
