Here's an article I wrote for a Jedi site. You may find it interesting.
This may come has a shock, but I don’t believe in God, I believe in the Force. I believe that when those who feel God, feel the Force. People that can do miracles are really using the Force. I would say about 90-95% of the population is Force sensitive and of that only 10% are aware of it.
Being a Jedi isn't just a religion. It isn't praying to the Force, or praising the Force. You have to study the Force by feeling and using it. For much of the teaching, it is self taught. The reason why we have teachers is to learn the few things that we can’t learn or understand on our own. Understanding how the Force affects you, the people around you, your life, your family, your country, the world, time, space and so on. There is no one right way of doing all this.
Defend the people, respecting life, having manners, your honor, obedience are all a major aspect of being a Jedi. People seem to think that through these ideas comes the Force. It’s the other ways around. The Force and life go hand in hand. As Jedi, we serve the Force and through that we serve the people. The best way to serve the people is to be helping by being, smart, polite and caring. Because the population is so big and there are so many needs one way of helping the most people in the best way is to serve the government. Frankly, this idea does not go well with me, for the government tends to screw things up.
The Force is a natural thing. We are all connected to it. We are directed by it. Our thoughts, customs, ways of life are shaped by the Force. People should first learn to feel the Force flow through them and through the world before they look at the Jedi code.
The code doesn't really make a ton of sense if you've never felt the Force. You can convince yourself that you understand it, but you really won't until you've experienced what the Force is and what you can do through it.
To be a Jedi on Earth on this day in time you will need some basic survival skills. You have to be able to jump, swim, control your breathing, learn to use and conserve your strength, when to fight and how to fight, how to dance, and balance. I don’t expect people to be able to Force leap, lift huge things with their mind, or dare I say create Force lighting. Those skills aren’t practical in this world. No one sword fights. So while, lightsabers are a sign of intelligent and understanding of the Force, they aren’t needed in your daily life. Even if you managed to make a light saber do you really want to show it off? Don't you think people would suddenly fear you or try their hardest to steal it? Think about your government. Wouldn't they love to get their hands on that weapon.
From what I can tell, many people feel that to be a Jedi is to have the Jedi mind. The mind of a Jedi is very organized and centered. You can think ahead quickly. You can make huge decision extremely fast. You are always aware of everything and everyone. You are always conscious of yourself and the Force. It is the part about the Force that people seem to leave out in their training. People ignore the Force because they don't understand it and they don't know how to use it. The few that have felt it, know it's not easy to control and takes years for hard, consistent training to be able to do anything with it that may be of use, but it's all worth it. If you want to stand out, be different; try using the Force a bit. Most people are lucky. If you simply want to learn to use the Force, just go to any psionic site and you will find yourself in an internet heaven with plenty of people willing to help you and answer all your five million questions. Should you leave out the Force, you suddenly make it quite possible for anyone to be a Jedi, but most people are not meant to be Jedi.
I almost get the feeling that those who call themselves Jedi fear the Force and feel that's wrong and spent their energy talking about how great it is. What is even stranger is how we try to break down the Force and give it a personality. The Force is energy to make is simple. It doesn’t think nor feels. It’s like a river. It just goes a down a path. There seems to be a few properties to the Force, like water. You can navigate the Force like you can swim through water. You can direct the Force like you can build a new stream bank and direct the stream that way.
Many of you have said on your profile you were led to this site by the Force. That is wrong. The Force doesn’t lead anyone anywhere. The Force does not have a “will”. You followed the Force to here. Our subconscious self is always in contact with the Force. We usually are not aware of this connection, but when we are we call this a “gut feeling” and such. There are times when our subconscious picks up on a stream of the Force and decides to let the conscious part know about this. So what happened was your subconscious told the conscious part to follow certain links or type in certain words and you found this site.
It is a common mistake for mankind to give inanimate objects a personality and the ability to reason. We call ships and cars “she”. We curse out the computer saying “it is doing this to spite me”. We have also created the light and dark side. All these sides are simple our use of the Force based on our emotions, intentions and thoughts.
So here comes the hard part of all of this (or at least for me). To be Jedi is to feel, study, and use the Force. The Force is truly a great, gigantic thing, but really people. We don’t worship the desk, the air, the sun, or your cat (though the cat thinks you should). So why do you worship the Force? There is a verse of the code “There is no passion; there is serenity”. That means don’t talk about it, do it. So don’t talk about the Force, unless you know about it. Be realistic with your goals as a Jedi. Do what you can and think about what you believe in.
