following along as the class read a novel out loud. All of a sudden, I got this incredibly strong urge to just start bawling. My eyes watered up, I felt heartbroken, the works. I have absolutely no clue why. No one in class was obviously/outwardly upset and everyone was joking and messing around. The only thing I can figure is that it was something in the novel. The catch: it's in Spanish and, although I speak it fluently, I wasn't really paying attention. Plus it was a novel writting in proper Spanish they speak in Spain, so I'm not too familiar with it. But I digress. Grounding didn't even work. Blek.

Maybe the checkout lady was sad, or even the person who stocked the book on the shelf. PS Hablo espanol! Pero, no se escribir...accents. Como se dice accents?

True, true. I've channeled my anger into pennies to get rid of it, so why not? Accentos, I believe.

At that point you just wait until you get out of that class, get to a bathroom and breathe deeply and ground.

To ground is to send all of the excess energy out of your body and into the earth, to keep yourself from being overloaded. The method I use is to imagine the energy flowing from your head all the way down to your feet, and then draining into the ground/floor.

I kinda think that people's emotions can get stuck in physical objects. One of my friends noted after a few visits to another friend's place that there was something about the place that made him angry and said friend and their roommate fought like it was going out of style. If you can get the book out of the classroom long enough to do such, you might want to ground the book or something along those lines if that is what's doing it. It also might be possible that someone's unknowingly sending their angst your way, like they got numb to their own need to pout but they're still sending it out for every empath within city limits to hear. That or just plain good at hiding things. There is also the odd chance the emotions themselves are getting sent rather than just read, though the one time I've seen that it was because of mine and a couple friends' muckage gone wrong. It's really unlikely that happened, though it would explain why grounding didn't work. Might want to see how many psions you can spot in la clase espanol... that's just my gut instincts talking though.

No problem.
Snowangel: I don't think the book itself is the problem. I'm pretty sure it was someone sitting around me in class. I think I will try to scope out who could be a psion. Gut feelings are seldom wrong.
