I realize that many many guides recommend the use of psi wheels in basic telekinesis practice, but perhaps the psi wheel is not an effective beginning tool to practice with. (Or it is not effective in any way at all.)
Here is my reasoning: the psi wheel is very easy to move. VERY VERY easy to move. I'm not talking with psi, I'm talking with physical movement. A slight shift can create a wind current great enough to nudge it. A small breath does the same thing. In my past experiences with psi wheels, I have thought I was achieving results, only to discover it was my own breath. I've even tried by shielding my breath with my shirt or covering the entire psi wheel. But even in these cases, vibrations caused by my arm around the table have caused the psi wheel to move. It was sometimes very hard for me to realize the psi wheel was moving because of my physical interaction with it.
I consider myself a healthy skeptic. I'm not completely sure about telekinesis, but I have given it a try. The psi wheel led me sometimes to briefly believe I achieved telekinetic success, and even on some occasions hoodwinked me for a couple minutes into thinking I was successful, when my senses and logic made me realize the actually cause was vibrations or breath.
I'm not trying to debunk telekinesis and say it's false - I'm simply saying Psi wheels are too easy to be moved by physical means rather than through telekinesis. If I, as a healthy skeptic, though for even just a couple minutes I achieved telekinesis when I reality I did not, what will complete non-skeptics who really want to believe in telekinesis think? There is a good chance they will believe they have successfully achieved telekinesis.
I recommend the use of a different item for beginning telekinesis - perhaps a toothpick. This can still be moved by breathe, but it is much more obvious when you move it physically rather than mentally.
