Hey guys!
My parents are kinda very authoritative. They think that psionics is a waste of time... Although I am trying to convince them in the contrary, they just won't listen...
Any suggestions?

Think like an authoritative parent. Before you try to explain it to them, get your facts together and try to predict their combacks to what you say. This way, you'll be able to defend yourself better. You can try to make it appealing to them, too. How you'd go about doing that I have no clue, but I would suppose it's possible.

Ah, like Liz said, think like an Authoritative parent. Think about anything they might say, and have something to respond do it. Try to show them, heck, try to teach them! They may be amazed. At least you have nothing to hide, like some of us.

well... coming back at them is not a problem... the problem is, that I am a debater (I've been top speaker at the world schools debating championships 2007) and anytime I try to have a rational discussion or try to persuade them, they simply state "this is not a debate" or "I'm not debating with you"...

i dont see the point in tring to get them to see things your way. when my parents start going on about something, they just keep at it. theres no changing them, they only see things from thier point of veiw and think that its the only one.
i just let them win the thing and move on with life.
i dont see why you want to prove that it isnt a waste of time, just dont show them in the first place. let them believe that you saw things their way and practise in private. then when you get good at it, rub it in their faces by doing something wicked-awsome:)

Yeah. Like EVERYONE said, parents can be a little hard headed. When I first started, my mom was big into all those overly-religious books saying that if it wasn't created by God or he didn't say it's okay, then it's satan's work. Needless to say, Psionics was something she explicitly did not want me doing.
I did it anyway, of course.
My dad din't mind, and eventually, my mom got out of that frame, but what did help to convince them was this: I'm not conjuring anything, I call upon no-one's help but my own, and the worst thing that can happen is I get a headache. And if it turns out the at all of it IS a waste of time, at least I wasted my time on something intellectual instead of drugs, video games, TV, ther junk.
Oh, and by the way Liz, I LOVE your avatar. Ahahahaha... I can't help but laugh when I see it.

You can tell them that Psi skills are not something new and made-up, but have been used for centuries. Mention to them to look into things like Quantum Touch, Reiki, Energy healing, Tai Chi, etc, etc.
They are just ignorant of things out of the every day "norm"-- People have a hard time believing in things they dont' see-- but even electricity has its own energy --and you can't see it.
There is alot of untapped abilities our minds have. The ability to create with the mind goes further than mentally planning things. Every thought we have has an impact on the physical World
