Welcome to the site. So you said you have a black belt in kali? Are there a lot of kali schools around where you are? And out of curiosity, are the weapons you train with just the stick, and knife?
As for studying magic, I think you'll find, based on your definition of it, it can be very similar to many things hear. It would makes things so much easier if there was some kind of actual organization that created standardized definitions and things like that too, because there are many varying definitions of magic, chi, psi, and stuff like that.

most shcools are mixed martial arts out here. while the kali schools are labeled as jeet kune do i think i just got lucky when a friend introduced me to the instructor we hit it off, the philosophy in the school was jeet kune do but all the trapping and really all the training was kali in kali traditionally you learn stick then dagger then open hand. yes psi seems to be very simular to magic especially from a healing point.

Isn't Jeet Kun Do the martial art that Bruce Lee created?

yes it is Bruce's art. hmm my post was a little miss leading let me set the record straight jeet kune do is the philosophy Bruce added to go along with the martial art he invented which is june fan boxing. the philosophy of june fan boxing ( jeet kune do) seems to revolve around his idea of "the conservation of energy" he forever changed martial arts with that philosophy, before Bruce martial artist jabbed with their week hand and threw the cross or hook with there strong hand Bruce thought why waist your most coordinated and powerful energy by making it travel so far for the strike. now in martial arts most lead with their strong hand. hmm to tell the truth thinking about it i do not know if kali leads with there strong hand, i learned from guru john lopez who was a student of a student of Danni Insonto who was the man Bruce was most intimate with about martial arts. he taught every thing as kali and penjakt silat. which all are very simular.

Thats rather odd, combining Kali and Jeet Kune Do, I've just never heard of any school like that. As for june fan boxing, I've personally never heard of it. I was under the impression that the philosophy of jeet kune do was the tao of jeet kune do, while the art was jeet kune do. And the leading hand, I personally was never taught to lead with my strong hand. = /
I've personally never heard of Danni Insonto either, but I guess you learn something new every day. I googled him and found nothing though. = /

Oh, I see him now. Wow, I never knew that.
Ha, I looked at the picture expecting to see a teenager. I forget that people older than 20 are interested in this stuff too, probably just cause I'm used to so many teenagers occupying the boards.

We have a handful of people over 20 (like me), but it is a teen aimed place. That does not mean above 20 people can't join or be a part of the site.

What is the difference between Kali and Silat? The site alluded to them being the same thing, but I'm not sure.
Silat is the BEST! I really like Silat...or really any martial art.

the way my instructor explained it to me was that originally all martial arts come from india some artist from india traveled originally to china and taught bhuddist monks the art of kali which name is taken from the goddess kali from there it spread all over the east by the time it got to the philopines the word kali only meant a dagger then it spread to indoneisia where it became known as silat. the main difference i think is the foot work like when parring a punch with kali you step the left foot forward and to the left parring with the left hand in silat you step to the left with the right foot parring agian with the left hand this could be better because when you move your right foot to the left your your groin is less exposed but it is harder to keep you balance. silat in my oppinion has a more evil feel to it the strikes are a lot more bruttal i learned a move to take out the eyes while dropping the victim backwards on to my knee to brake his spinal cord.
