Its the feeling and emotions that are felt when you here music. THey make you feel more at peace, anger, happiness,etc........
I use a little Trance and Rave etc. To get an energy feeling. I also use a little calssical music and other calm music to feel more calm and at peace.
Try listeing to different genres, and feel the emotion, of the singer or the beat. Foucs on its vibe.........
Whatever feeling you like than try to stay listening to that genre.
Music helps me while im mediating..........cause im focused on the emotion of it. Im just listening and understanding the music......and focusing on my breath. and bam im in relax mode.
what type? any type that you like. what ever floats your boat..........

I realize this topic was posted over two months ago, but oh well.
I am also the kind of person who finds music to be very soothing and relaxing. Even though I have not yet meditated for the first time, I would love to use music as means of obtaining a clear state of mind and relaxing the body.
One question to you though... do you recommend that I use external speakers? Or would headphones be acceptable so long as it is not uncomfortable and the music not too loud?
I appreciate anyone's feed back.

Personally, I cannot stand headphones due to them itching for some reason. I tend to use Weightless by Mike Oldfield, as it is quite calming, and can be played at low volume yet still have full impact. I would say that it is best to try all methods and go with what works best for you.

From the articles written by Jedikaren, it seems that any outside disturbance can break the attempt of meditation.
I was thinking of using over-sized, noise-cancelling over the ear headphones. I do have a pair here that works wonders, the noise-cancelling ability should give me a good advantage.

It all depends on the person. For many it is only possible in silence, but for some such as me, something is needed to help get into the correct state of mind. Do whatever feels right to you and it should work out.

It does depend on you, if you can handle loud noise all around. I do both now, i can have a calm mind at loud noise times a lot more now. and when it comes to music i can here it on headphones and speakers.

I actually prefer Techno, Electronica and Rave genre musics; I have some pieces here that are perfect for setting a calm, relaxing atmosphere. The room is almost done, a bit more cleaning and I am ready.
As suggested by Karen, I should begin my practicing after all of the articles are read over.
Many thanks for your advices! I shall heed them wisely.

Once again, another question...
I understand that the body has to be relaxed in order to achieve a sucessful meditation. I have decided to test two methods for my self using music:
1) Over the ear headphones with noise-cancelling technology from Plantronics.
2) Exernal speaker system with thanks Modulation Matrix and sporting a 400 Watt Bass Subwoofer.
My question is this.. if I do go with option number two, would the vibrations from the bass subwoofer interupt the meditation?

Just go with the ear phones unless you really are trying to start a rave. Most would agree with lite music. Keyword here is lite. Why lite music? Think about it, how many people mosh at a jazz concert??

I stongly agree. I have personally felt small bursts of energy going down through my body when I listen to certain songs that match my mood. Like Waka Laka (DDR music, can be found on limewire) when I am happy. Try this, it may help a lot.

i dont have a special meditation music. im listening to the radio (the station plays all kinds of music) then when im ready to meditate, i turn the radio down really low, so that i can hear that its own but cant make out what they are saying. so its like a quiet mumbling in the background if i dont know the words to the song that playing. and even then, that dosnt distract me, be it rock, hiphop, dancehall, are&b, reggae or dance
