Yepyep. Alpha state is easy to achieve. Closing one's eyes will naturally slow one's brainwaves down to mid-alpha. That, or you could use binaurals to achieve a slightly deeper alpha or a theta state.

A type of sound file that synchronizes brainwaves to a beat frequency. I've detailed it numerous times on this site, I believe. ^_^

The Alpha state is when you are relaxed not asleep but just relaxed... when you are awake your brain runs at:
Awake-13~30 Hertz (Beta) Relaxed- 8~13 Hertz (Alpha) between wake and sleep-4~7 Hertz(Theta) sleep- 0.5~4 Hertz (delta)
hertz means brain cycles per second hope this helps ^^

Alpha state refers to the rate of electrical vibrations of the brain. The normal waking rate, the beta state, is from 13 to 30 cycles per second. In alpha, brainwaves slow down to between 8 to 12 cycles per second. You can even go deeper, as you acquire expertise in processing, entering the theta state of 4 to 7 cycles per second. Much research has been done on the benefits of the alpha state. Healing occurs naturally and the conscious mind is relaxed. The body is relaxed and feels different. Processing begins: The Higher Self and the Witness begin to function. The psychic abilities are awakened. Sensitivity to the energy flow (as perceived through the feelings) increases. Visualizations and affirmations are more effective. Clearing begins, almost spontaneously. Integration is facilitated.
The first key to achieving the Alpha state is relaxation!
For simple relaxation exercise try this:
Lie on your back with your legs uncrossed, your arms at your sides, palms up, and your eyes open or closed, as you wish. Focus on your Breathing, how the air moves in and out of your body. After several deep breaths, as you begin to feel comfortable and relaxed, direct your attention to the toes of your left foot. Tune into any sensations in that part of your body while remaining aware of your Breathing. It often helps to imagine each breath flowing to the spot where you're directing your attention. Focus on your left toes for one to two minutes. Then move your focus to the sole of your left foot and hold it there for a minute or two while continuing to pay attention to your breathing. Follow the same procedure as you move to your left ankle, calf, knees, thigh, hip and so on all around the body. Pay particular attention to the head: the jaw, chin, lips, tongue, roof of the mouth, nostrils, throat, cheeks, eyelids, eyes, eyebrows, forehead, temples and scalp.
Finally, focus on the very top of your hair, the uppermost part of your body. Then let go of the body altogether, and in your mind, hover above yourself as your breath reaches beyond you and touches the universe.
Let your arms, and legs feel heavy (so heavy) and warm, feel your body sinking into the Earth. Allow yourself to stay in this state for a few minutes. By now you are in the Alpha state.

What I'm confused about, is what happens after you open your eyes again. I can meditate, and get to the point, where my limbs feel like lead, and I feel warm, and I can hold that for 5-10 minutes. But what happens when I open my eyes to try a certain excerisise, such as hydrokinesis experiment? Wouldn't my brainwaves speed up again, making it harder to conduct the experiment?
