Well, why don't you try to program it to do that? Also you can program it to telepathically suggest people to stop talking to you. That's what I would do, but good luck.

I'm not sure, with telepathy? Maybe have it project the message/feeling that they should not talk or to go elsewhere to do it?

what i usually do is associate something with the action i expect.
like with the spikes, i expect that when they get 'spiked' they feel uncomfortable and want to move, but i cant associate anything with shutting up

Make a shield, and program it to broadcast ''just shut up, you're being so annoying.'' Then again, if you're talking about one specific person, you'll need to make the shield link to them before sending the message.

or you can simply imagine their mouth being removed. its what i did when i did a test run of this shield. i cant stand it when everybody is quiet so i reversed the effect. if you need an image for that then watch the brothers grimm

What I would do is make a variation on my persuasion construct (for more information see my persuasion thread here in this board). I would simply bind the construct to the person I wanted to be quiet and give the persuasion construct the command “Whenever this person attempts to talk to me, make them decide not to” or something similar.
If I wanted it to have a more widespread effect (not just to effect one person but a whole group), I would make a single construct programmed to constantly scan everybody around me, and then whenever someone thought about talking to me, it would make a persuasion construct, program it with that “shut-up command”, and automatically bind it to the person.
Also, if I wanted it to stop people from talking completely and not just to stop talking to me, I would program it with “Whenever this person attempts to talk, make them decide not to”, instead of the program above.
Hope this helps. BTW, this is a hilarious idea, and I think I’m going to try it soon. Maybe I can stop my teachers from calling on me so much, etc.

Maybe take the same construct, and change the spikes to the suggestion of lots and lots of old, musty books? Maybe it's subtle, but I noticed even in bookstores I go to the people there aren't noisy (even if it's not a library.)

Just program a construct to give the people you don't want to talk to the following message: "You don't have a reason to talk to this person. Therefore, it is senseless to do so and you do not want to do anything senseless." Works for me.
