how do i know wether or not the basic shield i made is actually there or not?

Same way you can feel whether or not a psi ball is really there or not. Also, you could test it out by throwing a construct at it which is programmed to bounce off shields and feel that, if you're willing to program another construct.

Learn to make a mirror shield. I think this is the best shield for beginners, because if you want to test it, just throw a psiball at it and see if it bounces back.
