Think about it this way...
All these "Abilities" were first developed and used in secret magick circles. The public, hearing very little about it was naturally curious. Little by little, information leaked about the type of things these mages could do (PK, Clairvoyance, Telepathy ect...) but they never herd HOW to do them. A few individuals experiment, and find that using the constructive facilities of the imagination produce results. These people never learned of the years of training and personal development that was involved--they were just interested in power... They philosophise a bit, mabey reach the conclusion that there is some unseen force(duh) and call it psi... and VOALA psionics is born.

I'll go with the croud. all language is baced off of is the idea that by using simalar words in a simalar manner we can understand eachother, as long as I understand what you are talking about I won't complain.
I'll only complain, really if what word gets used for some reason distracts me from what was being talked about. if you atart calling psion/psychics cheeseburgers, I'll complain, cause then I won't be able to practice without getting hungry. =p

I use the term psion, because I was taught that term from PsiPog, and because the term "psychic" makes me think more of predicting the future and reading peoples minds and stuff...

I've never come across the term psion before, so psychic is the one I'm most comfortable with. But the arguments as to why psychic is not quite suitable are fairly convincing, so I may (if I get anywhere in developing my abilities!) adopt the term psion as a descriptor. Language evolves all the time as new situations arise and people need new words for them, or as people just happily invent new words that sound good to them! It's fun to track new words and see them become "proper dictionary words".

i've always been told that anybody that has/uses abilities of the mind is called a "Psionic". the word Psychic to me, seems like a "hollywood" term...maybe because the term has been so commercialized over the years
