I think you have been watching too many movies if you believe that knowing a possible course of the future is going to cause it to happen. and lets say some unpredicted twist of fate causes it to happen anyway. go with the car scenario. so your going to get hit, and you know it. Instead of trying to avoid it you face your fate head on - but before you do that you make amends with your brother you were having an argument with, and get to say your final words to the world, make sure your will is written out properly, and then go run out and eat someone's hood-ornament.
you may not have changed the event it'self, but you prepared for it.
The future starts today. do what you are going to do, and do it well.
