Spirit guide misconception?

I've been trying to read all I can about spirit guides and have been trying to communicate in some way with mine for about a week now.
I've been scoping around in the astral projection/obe forum and people have been saying how they've been looking for their guides.
Maybe I'm confused with the whole idea of spirit guides but I thought everyone had one and that all you had to do was call on him/her.
I've been having trouble communicating with mine because I'm just not very good at telepathy. I feel like I've found my spirit guide's presence though. I didn't need to go looking, he/she was just there.

Well, here's the thing, your spirit guide might not think it's time to reveal themselves to you yet. It took a couple of years before mine was revealed to me, it was very sudden. But they are always there whether you can sense them or talk to them or not.

But maybe it is a misconception that all you have to do is call on him/her. But also, maybe they will give you guidence without you knowing it, like seeing a billboard or overhearing a conversation that makes you go "huh..." or even a bit of intuition like "don't go down that street." They are there, ever if secretly.

Great article. I've been to erin's site before. Good quality articles that for the most part stays away from much spirtuality.
