Expectations
7-13-2006
When someone puts expectations on or towards any given situation they begin to narrow and put limitations on the given situation & experience. This in turn can lead to attaching oneself to a particular out come(s). This can have a varying effect of what one now perceives of the given situation. Expectations can be placed on anything. One can have expectations of how a certain movie will be. Or one can have expectations on how a relationship should be. Expectations can even be placed on what some is going to say. This can be detrimental to a relationship, let alone the “Communication” process (Refer to my previous article, “Communication” for further details/info). The list can go on and on because expectations like I said can be applied to anything.
So, how does one stop limiting oneself by placing expectations on/towards anything? This starts by not having any preconceived notions or thoughts about how things should be or is going to be. If you always think that a given situation is going to suck or be a certain way? There is a good chance that you’ll get your wish. Because you are expecting it to happen and sometimes no matter what happens, you’ll find just what you are looking for/expected, of which you had put your preconceived thoughts towards. It’s akin to putting blinders on. Or seeing only what one wants to see. Same thing here when one places expectations, or already has it. This is also how one gets attached to things or has attachments with/for things. All because it had started with placing expectations or having expectations. Attachments in it self is something left for an entirely new article and with that said, I’ll come to a close. Now was that something you had expected?
Love,
Edward
