What do you mean, "shadows of the past?"
I doubt you mean silhouettes of those who have blocked the light of the sun in previous years.

i mean shadows of the past, insubstantial shadowlike forms that recreate whatever strong events were at that place such as death.

Like a residual haunting? Where one's energy was tied so strongly to a place that their incorporeal form is repeatedly spotted doing the same thing (like rocking in a chair, or going down a certain hallway)?

yes exactly! i can "see" the past as incorporeal shadows that "haunt" the place where they felt strong enough emotions to leave a lasting mark on the energy there

Cool. I believe it's common, since many haunted houses have a figure who hasn't left yet. Someone eternally doomed to repeat its actions. I don't think it's the soul of the dead person, though, but a manifestation of their strong desires, fears, emotion.
