I had a dream 2 days ago and when I woke up I could remember everything as it happened. I could even recall the clothes I was wearing. I remember wearing a black sweater. This sweater was something that only I could pick out. Something I could remember in my head. The same day that I had woke up from the dream my family and I went shopping in New York. That day, I purchased a black sweater. The one almost completely identical to the one I dreamed about. Is this precognition?

Sounds like a self-fulfilling prophecy to me. You dreamed about a black sweater, so you decided like it would be a good idea to buy a black sweater.

But it wasn't that I wanted a black sweater. I didn't purposely go into the store looking for a black sweater. I was with family and my aunt picked it out. It wasn't until afterwards when we were on the way home when I realized that I had the sweater. (What's self-fulfillinf prophecy?)

I think that is when your mind is telling you what you want.

A self-fulfilling prophecy is when you want something to happen so much that you actually make it happen. Usually there's no psionics to it, you just make it happen. For example, you dream that you have a black sweater, and then you intentionally go out to buy that black sweater just to make the dream a reality. Usually the term is used in psychology or sociology for when someone wants to look or act a certain way, that eventually they actually start to look and act that way. Or more accurately, even if we stereotype something, eventually the people of that stereotype will start to fulfill that stereotype just because we want them to. Perhaps Wikipedia clears it up: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-fulfilling_prophecy

prophetic dreaming is when you have a dream that will come true, aka a Prophecy. I like to set Prophecy and Precognition apart, in that Precognition generally may or may not come true, but Prophecies always come true. One who has prophecies is usually called a Prophet, and there is no such thing as a false prophecy; only a false prophet.

Well, when I was wearing the sweater I was at school. I was with my friends and we were in the Computer Lab. We were talking about something and they were all smiling at me, but I can't remember what they were talking about.

Well, if the sweater was EXACTLY the same, then I dunno. Could be. It depends on the rest of the dream, and what happened.
