Humility
“Certainly, arrogance is something that will never go away, but it IS something that we can recognize and avoid. The *real* key is to know when someone is telling you that maybe it's time to re-center, and not getting upset about it. But that is a lesson for another day...”-Keyan
To look at the pain, to look at the faults, to look at the truth of ourselves is to be a Jedi. It is without a doubt, one of the hardest acts to do for anyone. It takes a great deal of will power, courage, and humility. As a Jedi, this is a mandatory step that an apprentice must take. Many of us have had our ego far too big and letting it rule our actions. We post something that the ego wants to say and then we are sternly corrected. It is only then, do we look at ourselves to see what we said. When this is done, we come across the meaning of humility.
Humility is the ability to understand the world does not revolve around you, but possible it could with others. Have you ever sat down in a quiet corner and studied a room full of people? You will notice that in the group there are sub groups. Each sub group has a leader, or a person that is the center of attention. You may note that some groups will accept the leader or center person more than others. As you sit there noting all this, reflect upon your position in the room. Does anyone notice you? They probably do not, or else you could not do a proper analyzes. Note that you are not the center of attention, but your view of the world makes you feel as if you were. Humility is the ability to realize there are different points of view in the world and each need to be respected.
Humility is all about respect. You become humble when you respect you, the world around you, and your peers. You acknowledge the fact that you do not know all and can not know all. When this realization has been discovered, you are able to look at others in a respectful way, to learn what they know, to accept their point of view, and understand they too, do not know all, nor could. Most people seem arrogant because they do not truly respect themselves. They will not respect their faults and fears and therefore will prey on the faults of others. So when they look at their self, they have learned humility and are ready to view the world this way.
Humility is not an easy mental and emotional state to reach. All Jedi struggle with it, some will have a better handle of control. For the knight and master, humility must be relearned in order to teach. You must once again become aware that while you know more than others, do not make the mistake of thinking an apprentice knows nothing. It is the duty of a teacher to show humility to the student in order to set the example. If you can not look at yourself and others in a humble way, why should a student do it? If the Jedi are to be to the role models of the world, we have to be role models for each other. So I ask you all to look back and see when and how you learned or relearned humility. Your thought on this lesson is appreciated.
