I know this doesn't make a lot of sense when you look at the order. This is stuff that I thought up while on a month long break from the site.
The darkness of the mind
The dark side is deceitful. The dark side is the reflection of your actions, your choices. We all have a dark side, for we all want to decision to do what is wrong. We want to let go of all social, moral and common sense restraints and allow this part of our mind run wild, as we don’t bother to think what the effects are on us and on others. We all want to explore that dark part, the unknown and the forbidden. In a sense, we all do get to identify that part, some of us like it so much, we join forces with it. Some of us shrug and ignore it and some of us fear it to the point we will do anything to control it.
You do not realize you are doing down hill until you hit the bottom and get hit with peace and light. You forget what peace, order, a positive feeling feels like. Your mind becomes use to the negativity you place upon yourself. This reminds me of a cave man who lived in a cave and never saw a bit of light. He never knew about the idea of light, why he had eyes, or why would he want to be able to see. Then, suddenly, the light hits the man and the man is shocked, scared, frozen, in awed, and curious. He wants to know what this light side is, yet he fears something that is different, like a different way to approach life, a different, new idea he has never thought of. The longer he stayed in the cave before he found the light, the harder it is for him to approach the light. His mind wants to cling to what he knows, even if it is not true or doesn’t make sense.
The itch
We itch, we scratch and we know not to. We get this urge to claw out our leg, to make the itch go away and yet we try to resist this. We know if we did that, we would be in more pain than we wish. So, instead, we end up only scratching ourselves, until we bleed a bit, though not a lot. So now our limb not only hurts, bleeds, but it still itches. The strange thing is if we did not scratch so much, or didn’t scratch at all, we wouldn’t have this slow to heal cut that was self inflicted….now add the dark side to “itch” and you’ll get my point.
The dark side, the wrong and harmful choices we make, are like that itch. This is the meaning behind “Once you go down the dark side, forever will it consume your destiny.” Well, as we can see in the movies, that isn’t always true, but for the most part it is. Drugs, gambling, and (sometimes) sex are good examples of this itch. Habits that turn into consumption are of the dark side. Control and being conscious of your thoughts, emotions, actions, and decisions is the way to avoid the “dark side”.
The angry yell
It’s strange how when one person gets angry and starts yelling and people get offended by the anger, they get angry and start venting their anger too, instead of calming down the first guy or just leaving the situation. They do not think and just react. They do not realize why the first person is angry, nor do they care. Most people calm down after while and really, if you can just wait that anger out, then you can talk to the person with both of you being calm…of course that will take patience and maturity. You have got to have control over yourself before telling others to have control themselves. If you approach someone with a calm voice and a relaxed, patient body, then you’re more likely to calm them and reach a deeper state of calm maturity yourself.
The maturity
Maturity is the ability to not get angry, irritated, or annoyed by the immaturity of others, but to calmly accept this and to not sink to their level. Maturity is the skill that enables us to let go of these harmful, irrational actions and reactions and to be able push pass them to reach a better understand of yourself and the immature people around you. Maturity is also the awareness of what is social accepted. We know not to run down the halls, screaming our heads off, because we would show lack of maturity. Often, we think maturity is marked by age, but this is not always true. Some thirteen year olds have displayed more maturity than their parents. Maturity is gain by watching others, seeing what reactions people have towards that behavior and then using that for later use. Maturity can also be gained through personal experience. We all know what doesn’t kills us, makes us stronger. Sometimes, trial and error is the best way to gain maturity.
Foolish
“Who’s the more foolish, the fool or the fool that follows him?”
This is one of those quotes that gets forgotten and lost among so many other famous quotes, and yet there is a great deal of meaning to it. The quote brings up the question of who in charge and why? Who should take responsibility and why? The fool should recognize enough of his self to comprehend that he is a fool and not permit others to follow him. At the same time, the follower should know better than to follow a fool. The follower should have enough sense to bring to the attention of the fool, what his fault is.
Foolish comes from the combination of lack of maturity, judgment, and patience. The words rash, stupid, irrational, and thoughtless all come to mind when thinking about foolish. Foolishness can be part of a character’s flaw, or it can be from the lack of experience and maturity. Sometimes, a simple explanation of what the person is doing wrong, can correct foolishness. It is up to the Jedi to make sure, that if they are doing anything foolishness, they do not let people follow their way and if so, that the Jedi gives adequate warning.
Reputation
Reputation is one of the tricky things a Jedi must decide on. The balance of reputation is hard to keep from going too much one way or the other. The reputation of a Jedi is important to keep up, but not to the point it causes the life of the Jedi or the lives of others.
Reputation is the thoughts, feelings, and opinions made by other people about you. Reputation is gained by actions done by you. Of course, the reputation can be false or not matching to the truth of the person due to the fact opinions can be distorted for a number of reasons. So, having a good or bad reputation does not mean truth, just the general opinion of others about you. Reputation can have a grain (or more) or more because after all, it is based on actions done by you.
For a Jedi, your reputation should be a good, solid one, in order to gain the trust of others. It is important to have that trust so people will be willing to let the Jedi help them, or even seek the help of a Jedi. The reputation does not have to be purely positive and nice, and probably shouldn’t. Someone who is always nice, kind, and caring is usually seen as weak and easy to take an advantage. A Jedi should been seen as neutral in certain situations like the moderator in an argument or fight. A Jedi should be able to aggressive, but nor overly aggressive, to be able to fight people who are actively harming another person (this does not include threats or rude gestures) who can not fight back. At the same time, the Jedi must be able to give mercy and forgive others for mistakes.
This is a hard reputation to gain and then maintain. It requires experience and sadly, mistakes to be made and learn from. So, it is always a good idea to think what your actions could do to your reputation before you act.
