There is a movie out with this as its title. Frankly I like the idea. Happiness never comes to you. You have to work for happiness. Happiness is when one does not have worry, when one is safe, when one is loved and cared for.
No one, not even a Jedi, can help, but worry. Human beings want control over their environment. When we lose that control, we worry, we let fear in. We waste energy on emotion, rather than spending the energy in action to counteract the worry. They want to life to go their way, but we know that is not possible. So, we must take control of what we can, and accept what comes. Sometimes, if you prepare, you cushion the blows life deals you. The opposite of worry, is not good either. Some worry is good because it shows that you are not apathy. It shows that you care for yourself and for others, which is the Jedi way.
We can never truly be safe. No matter what we do, we just can not be ready for ever disaster in life. There is a balance that everyone must decide between being safe and being happy. At some point, a person has to stop worrying about their safety, lay back and enjoy what they have. An example of this is being well-off. At what point do you stop trying to get the better job for money? When do you know have enough to be happy? Some people can be pretty broke and really enjoy life. Others, will work their own life, earn over a million dollars and never be able to enjoy the money.
Love is always tricky. Love is one of the most powerful forces in the universe. It is said that love conquers all. There are so many types of love, like love for a friend, love for a cousin, love for a pet, and love for a wife. Modern, not fictional, Jedi can love as they can have families and bonds with each other. The catch is not to let the love dominate their life. A Jedi does not let their love for their wife come before their duty. A Jedi needs love in order to have the Order they have created. A Jedi needs love to feel the need to protect life. A Jedi even needs love to kill, should he or she must do so.
A Jedi is a human and humans need to be cared for. A Jedi, even us who feel so alone in society, so unable to fit in, needs that caring, that social acceptance. The Order is a safe heaven, but that only happens when people are willing to give the caring we care for. Caring comes with respect for others. When we respect someone, we feel the need to extend a caring, helping hand. When an Order loses its ability to care for its members, the Order falls apart.
So as it can be seen, happiness is not easy feeling to have. Happiness is earned.
