While waiting for your account to be approved.
After creating an account on PsiWorld and getting it approved, the first thing that youfll probably want to do is to post something on the forums and introduce yourself in the eIntroduce Yourself Heref board, have your say about things in The Debate Corner, or learn and share tips about psionics in the eGeneral Psionicsf board.
Posting replies, or creating new topics is a very good thing, but only if it is done properly and maturely. When it is not, it can cause a variety of reactions- from confusion, misunderstanding and annoyance. To avoid this, when posting, we should
1. Place topics in the right place
Often, when people create topics, they can often forget to put it in the right board, and then rely on moderators and administrators to move the topic to the right place. To avoid this, we should know what the board is about, and see if what we are going to create relates to the board.
2. Punctuation and grammar
Often, people leave out punctuation, for example full stops, commas, capital letters, words such as ethef, eaf, eisf etc and do not use proper tenses. This often makes it very hard for the responder to reply with his or her opinions about the original post. To reduce confusion in areas of spelling, there is a spell checker available whenever you click ereplyf (rather than using the Quick Reply). The spell checker is very similar to the spell checker that is used in Word, and is also very reliable.
Also, with PsiWorld being a forum rather than a chat, everybody should post in full words, rather than use their shorter substitutes. For example, while euf can be used for eyouf while chatting, it is not tolerated on the forums.
Writing your whole post in capslock is also not a very appropriate way of expressing your point of view, since writing in capslock states that you are shouting, and it is also very hard to read.
3. Donft double post
Double posting is when somebody creates two or more posts one after the another, without anybody else replying. Often, people do this because they want somebody to see their post and reply, or because they had made a mistake on the previous post. Firstly- there is bound to be at least one person on the forum to see your post, and answer it. Often the reason why people do not answer immediately is because they are in a different time zone to you.
Secondly, when you make a mistake on your post, go back and edit it, by clicking on the eeditf button, rather than making another new post to explain the error. This way, it is easier to see the correction rather than having to read two posts.
4. Do your research
Never post a question before researching a bit first. Research can be as quick as searching the forum to see if the same question has been asked before, e.g. how to make psiballs, or as vast as searching the internet to see if there is anything about something that you want to discuss and debate about (so you have valid points). This ensures that you are not repeating what somebody has already posted before. A good place to look for newbie questions is in the FAQ section www.freewebs.com/jedikaren/faq.htm and the newbie questions. thepsiworld.proboards37.com/index.cgi?board=newb&action=display&thread=1111849566&page=7
5. Manners
When you are posting, you should respect other members of the forum and be courteous. Use words such as epleasef and ethank youf, since the person replying to your thread is using their precious time to reply to your thread individually. By having good manners on the forum, everybody will be happy, and they will treat you the same way as you treat them.
Also, donft eflamef or abuse people for their lack of knowledge, or their wrongdoing. This is very impolite, and does not help the situation in which they may be in (e.g. they may be new to the forum, or to psionics, etc.) If you want to tell them what they are doing wrong, simply tell them nicely what they are doing wrong. This will make you seem more mature, and therefore will be respected more in the community.
6. The content of your post
The content of your post should be cater for everyone. This means that there should be no swearing, talking about sex or drugs, placing pornography in your post, religion, etc. By doing so, the forum will be a much better place to be. Also, donft post posts with a lot of eflufff (something unrealistic), because it will not help the forum and its members (unless of course you can prove it).
In conclusion, being part of the Psiworld forums can be fun and educational, but this can only be done by everybody abiding the rules.
