Let's talk Chatroom Rules

Ok, obviously the rules for the chatroom aren't working. People say they are too strict, they don't think the rules are fair, or make sense. Other people don't like the chatroom due to the fluff, the lack of psi related topics, and the immaturity of some of the people. So, before the chatroom drives itself into the dust, I would like you offer you all a chance to make a change for the better.

I give you all two weeks, for anyone who is registered on this site and cares about the chatroom to make up a list of rules. You must manage to aplease these problems in some way:

1)the fluff topics
2)immaturity
3)getting off topic too much

You also must explain how these rules will work and why.

The current rules, if anyone is wondering, are the following with the reasons and how they work:

1) No one liners
ex:
Hey
I was wondering
if it is possible
to make
my psi ball
visuable?

Reason: To me, that shows a lack of thinking through what the person is trying to say and gets annoying to read when everyone starts doing that.

2) No cursing
Reason: it's rude and we have 13 year olds on here.

3)No "you" or "are" and so on
Reason: it's a rule on the forum, so might as well be a rule on the chatroom.

4) No all caps.
ex: HEY CAN SOMEONE HELP ME MAKE A PSI BALL?
Reason: It's annoying, rude, and greedy for attention. I understand this is usually being done done because the person is being ignored, but still, you can pm a mod or me and they will force people to listen to you, if you are being reasonable.

5) No repeating yourself more than 3 times
ex:
Hey
hey

I actually didn't come up with this rule, Vorn did, but I can see why. It does get a bit annoying if you do it in a row, even if other people type something before you post again.

The fluff topics I haven't done anything with, but I know other members, not mods have been fighting it and getting sick of it.

So here you have it. Remember, two weeks to create your own set of rules and then we will come in the middle, seeing what rules look the best.

i don't think the rules are strict at all, it's just people complaining because they are kicked too much. some people think i do one liners but i don't i just never use puncuations on the chatroom. We can't stop the fluff unfortunately, there are too many immature people looking for kicks.

Personally, I like those rules. (particularly the one about no "you" or "are". Ugh. Chatspeak. ) They're short, sweet and to the point.

I like the rules, i just gotta stop DOING THIS ALL THE TIME because when i'm exicted i do that lol. So i'll TRY NOT TO DO THIS when i'm talking, or at least not the WHOLE SENTANCE. :-)

I just dislike the guardian. 1, its not needed(when mods are online)
2,much people get kicked for accidently saying something double and the bot is no succes because you can just type 3times lol (lol lol lol.) so it has not really a function if you think of it.

I think guardian is a good bot, just the settings need to be tweaked. Set it to 3 times, not two, and like if it's 4 letter word like WHAT let it be.

Ok, now that I am back...

The bot is set to kick for four repeats, but it will randomly decide to kick for three, or five instead. I have zero control over this. It will kick for using more than 80% capitals in a line of text that is over five letters.

The bot will also ban you if you constantly do either of those.

Current moderators of the chat are JediKaren, Intrigue, Birdman, Junior, Rift, and myself.

Personaly, I will not enforce all the rules, as I highly disagree with two of them, however, all others will be enforced. For one, I believe that to understand psionics properly, you need to use more than just psi, so I will allow discussion of other energy types. For the second, I cannot keep myself from cursing once in a while, and I cannot expect of others what I cannot expect of myself. If you go nuts cursing, you will be kicked/banned, but I can understand once in a while.

A few rules that people seem to have trouble with: No talk about drugs, no talk about sex. Both of these will result in a ban for at least three days.

Another rule that I feel should be here: Do _NOT_ insult people for no reason. Joking I can deal with, insulting me I can deal with, but I get quite annoyed when people get insulted near me. Stealing other's names also falls into this group for me, as taking someone's name is more or less and insult.

If you get banned by me, my bans normaly last between 10 minutes and a day. If you really manage to irritate me it might be three days. In very rare cases it might be a week or more, but I hope that those cases will not come up again.

Another quick note - I log all chat in the chat room, and I do check the logs and if you break the rules while I am gone, depending on how bad you broke them, I will ban you for a day.



To sum it up:

No talking
like this
all the time.

Spam is bad.

Drugs and sex will get you a long ban to give you time to think about what you talk about.

TALKING LIKE THIS IS BAD.

Stealing names and insulting people are bad.

Constant cursing is bad.

Because, we need people who FOLLOW rules xD. No offense to you, lol, just playing around. But, i like those rules. Thanks for making your bot like that, and SORRY FOR TYPING LIKE THIS sometimes. Also, you might consider a spam bot, like to kick if you say 10 lines in 7 seconds or something, to kick people who spam.

nice rule I take dis very serious but funny also cause theirs a lot of people that are new that comes to the chat and get kicked out

There is another one that I was asked about last night. Nnooooo ssstttrreeeetttccchhhiinnngg wwooorrrdddss. Rather annoying is it not? From now on stretching out words will be another rule. If you do it once in a long while I can understand it, but doing it often will get you kicked, or banned if you do it too many times.
