First Topic! w00t!!! ^_^

Well, let's start things off right. I'm going to suggest some ground rules. Don't take them as law unless Karen approves them, of course. First, I strongly suggest we keep our debates to a formal setting. Makes for less fights when you're constricted by some rules. ^_^ I'm familiar with just about every logical fallacy there is, and I'll call you on them if I see them. Second, try to keep your arguments at least partially devoid of emotion. If I see any flame wars starting, you and I are going to have words. Not that I can do anything, of course, but you'll hopefully feel goshdarned guilty about yourself by the time I'm through with you. XD Third, if most people seem to be going to one side, and you're neutral on the topic (or even if you're not and just want some fun), try joining the debate on the side of the underdogs. This is a debate board, not an agreement-fest. If I can think of any more "suggestions" (or anyone else can, for that matter), I'll add them here.

There, now that that's out of the way, what's our first topic going to be? Hmm... I'm no good at picking topics, to be honest. I just wanted the first post. XD Oh, fine, if I HAVE to... maybe whether using psi to harm others can be justified, and under what circumstances?

Yes it can, if they start something with you.

It depends on the situation. If i feel threatened by the person, and they give me reason to harm them, psionically, then yes I'll do it. However, if they come at me, and make claims like they're going to harm me, I'll right out attack them first.

I don't really know how to harm people psionically, but if i did here is what i would think.

If somebody is hurting me, my family, or my friends, I wouldn't hesitate. If somebody is doing something wrong to another person, then maybe just an eincy wincey bit to scare the person out of doing it. But it's not right to just go out and start hurting people to see if you can do it or not. Oh, it's also if you are practicing with a friend, and it's controlled. That's ok

(I don't acually agree with my statement but hey!) No, the other person doesn't use psi, so why should you? Fight him/her at his/her own game.

I think that, if anything, psi should be used as an ABSOLUTE last resort in a fight. A) the person you're up against probably isn't a psion to begin with, so hitting them with something like that would be a rather cheap shot, seeing that they have no defense against it. B) Even if it IS psion-v-psion, they've been drilling it into our heads that "violence isn't the answer/doesn't solve anything" since we were in diapers. This is the one belief that people have been teaching kids that I can agree with. If you're up against another psion, who's to say it's not just going to turn into a fire fight? It just seems like one shouldn't have to resort to using their gifts (psi) for something as useless as a fight.

A mugger with a knife is not playing at your game, why should you show that courtesy to them?

What about learning martial arts, and using then for self defence? Are you saying that you shouldn't do this because your not playing at their game?

In my opinion, attacking someone is attacking someone, no matter what you use. If you have a weapon that they don't, and you feel justified in its use, go crazy. =P I'm a martial artis for example. If some guy tries to hit me, I'm going to maul his face off with my l33t tang soo do skills. I'm not going to resort to fisticuffs because he doesn't know martial arts so it's "not fair." The bastard attacked me, if I consider him enough of a threat to bother with, I'll darn well use whatever abilities I have at my disposal.

You do Tang Soo Do? My brother was a red belt in Tang Soo Do, but then the school closed and he didn't care enough to go find another one. lol Sorry for the offtopicness.
