What is a debate board?
Well to give you an idea of what I hope this turns out to be like, let me turn your attention to Astral Society's debate board that has done so well and managed not to tear down the site, please scroll down to "Great Debates": www.astralsociety.com/as/Forum/index.php/board,16.0.html
This debate board allows anyone, no password or age restrictions, to access, read, and post. You may talk about any topic you wish to debate. Debate means to have an opinion about a topic, present your opinion, show support, aka proof, examples, and wait for other people to respond to your opinion. Show your sources of information. That means if you say that 90% of psions are guys, you need to show where you got that number. A site or a book will do just fine. Otherwise it's very hard for people to take you and your statement seriously.
An example of a opinion starter debate would be: I think gay marriage isn't right for these reasons:
Some debate topics have a question that person wishes to answer and may want to hear the answers of others. The person would present their question and then answer it.
An example of a question starter debate topic would be: Should government allow the public to buy guns or not?
What topics would be allowed?
Pretty much anything. If your school allows it, I certainly do. You can talk about gun control, crime, gay marriage, should school search for drugs, birth control, abortion.
What I don't want is promotion of sex, drugs, violence unless for self defense, crime, threats, psionic attacks, and stuff of that nature.
The Rules
The rules are a lot stricter than normal. So are the punishments. I am doing this to keep tempers from flying, people leaving the site, and the reputation of the site to go down.
There is no: flaming, cursing, starting a fight, name calling, threatening, or calling people lairs.
If you are caught doing that you would be banned from the site for three days to cool off and think about what you did. Repeated breaking of the rules will result in two weeks to forever getting banned.
I also want better, more thought out posting. Try to increase your vocab, practice better grammar and look over spelling. I've seen a lot of useless "That's cool, that's gay, that's stupid, I like that, I agree" one liner posts. That doesn't show much thinking or intelligences. If you were to make a post like that, your post would receive a warning the first time and second time be deleted. Third time you get a notice from me and forth time a three day ban.
If you post a topic that is against the "no no topics" that thread will be locked and karma points will be taken off. Repeated forbidden topics would result in a three day ban.
With all that said, have fun debating away.
