NOTE: This short story was too long for the post, so I wrote it in two posts... Err, was that okay?
PART ONE
I wrote this story one morning. It may not be grammatically correct(I just threw it together in afew hours when I was board; that, and I'm dysgraphic). Please tell me if it's a good read or not, and tell me what you think. (ie, what your favorite parts are, who's side you were one [Issac's or Tom's, etc], how it lines up with psionics, or maybe with experiences we dealt with when dealing with skeptics, etc)
The Tale of The Water Wizard
Written by Admiral Refuge
Proof-read and semi-edited by Renzo
The following, is a personal message sent from Tom Clover to Vice Admiral Bertison. This letter has been classified above top secret until my source found it and I was able to publish it:
My name is CAPT Tom Clover. I write this letter to document the causes leading up to this time, and assuming I will succeed in my last mission, I just want the world to know who I was, and why I'm no longer with them. I was Captain of the USS Harbor Scout until it sank by an unstoppable force approximately one year ago. That same force, powering a storm the world has never seen before, is now heading for New York City.
I should blame myself for this; after all, he's angry at me. The military is preparing a full scale attack to stop him, but what good will that do? Bullets can't hurt him, bombs can't hurt him, what could stop the unstoppable? He has the power of a god and he uses it with vengeance. The one that calls himself a god, the one by the name, The Water Wizard.
It began about a year ago. It started like every other morning I've had; very calm. The peace was ended when that fateful phone rang. Had I known how the events were going to turn out, I never would have answered that phone. It was Admiral Vacens on the line. "I'm sorry to have called you on such short notice, but we have an important mission for you" and he hung up before I could respond. So I finished my breakfast and ran out the door.
After a twenty minute drive that felt like hours, I was at my destination: a Navy port off the cost of New Jersey. As I got out of my car, I could see the pale white Admiral Vacens. "What's the problem sir?" I asked. "We keep loosing ships, I think we are under attack!" He quickly responded while pointing out towards the ocean. I asked him, "Who's attacking us?" It took him about two seconds before he answered, "I don't know! All I know is our ships heading near this part of the map," as he points to a spot off the east cost, "they just die off the radar!" "And you want me to check it out?" I slowly asked him. "Yes," he responded, "Your ship is ready." I looked up to see my beauty, The USS Harbor Scout, the best scout ship in the world -- atleast to me. I boarded the vessel to be greeted by my crew. "Hello Sir, I am Commander Cherry." Commander Cherry was dressed in full uniform blues and seemed very exited to go out to sea; we all were. I shouted my first order on my last voyage, "Let's get out of this shipyard already, I want to find out what's taking out my ships!"
We started out at sea towards our destination. At the speed we were going, we should arrive there no more then a day or so. "So commander, what do you think is causing this?" We were just sitting on the bridge, and nothing interesting was going on, so I decided to make some conversation. "I'm not sure what or who it is. My guess would be a military power trying to control borders. If not, it could be a strange rip tide, a..." He wasn't able to finish, the whole boat shook; all the alarms went off as if we were under attack. I looked in front of me shocked, a massive storm was forming in front of me, it looked like water, like a rogue wave was rising to up 100 ft or more! "TURN THIS SHIP NOW!" I yelled as I was running from the bridge to the stern of the ship. I looked around me; over half of my crew was either panicking or trying to get in the life boats, while the rest was trying to keep the ship under control. The ship was being encased with walls of water rising on every side. I ran to edge of the stern and yelled as loud as I could, "WHAT IS THIS, A PUNISHMENT FROM GOD?!" It was after I yelled that, everything seemed to stop, but the water was suspended in the air. Actually, everyone seemed to stop too; slowly the water returned to normal. Then I saw something so amazing, I thought I was hallucinating until the crew confirmed it.
A bubble of water formed about 50 ft tall and 20-30 feet wide. It was in the shape of a face. In shock, I said the only thing I could think of at the time, "Are you Go.." I was interrupted by the entity. "Who is in charge of this vessel!" The thing yelling in a very loud and deep voice. "I...I am. I am Capitan Tom Clover, and I am the commanding officer on this ship. May I ask who yo... you are?" I nervously answered. "I AM THE WATER WIZARD, and you are trespassing on my part of the ocean!" it quickly replied. I wasn't sure if we were going to make it out of this alive, so I thought I'd make the best of it.
Whatever this thing was, since it didn't kill us yet, it may be capable of mercy. "Were you the one that sunk the other ships?" I asked the water-creature. "Yes, I sunk them. They trespassed with no regard for my territory," it answered and continued, "I gave them a chance to ask me for permission, but there was silence in their screams, so they were destroyed. I decided to ask it if our ship could have permission to dock in this area; it may not of been the best move, but I assume it was the right move, because it said yes, and sank back into the water; the ocean was still after that.
As soon as I knew it was safe, I ran to the bridge looking for the commander. "Commander, I need you to do something for me!" Commander Cherry seemed to still be in shock (as most of the crew was). "Capitan, sir, what do you need?!" he responded as professional like as he could. I replied, "I need you to do a background check on our 'god', find as much as you can about this water wizard out there. Can you do that?" "I'll do the best I can sir, I'll check all the archives!" I thanked him and went back out to the deck. "WATER WIZARD! ARE YOU THERE?" I yelled as loud as I could for it, I needed to talk to the creature again.... I was yelling for almost five minutes when someone finally answered;.
I saw that familiar face rise back out of the water. "I'm here," it slowly responded. "I gave you permission to dock, what more do you want?" It asked. I replied, "I want to know more about you. I can tell you about myself! I'm from the race known as the humans, and I want to know what you are!" It just looked at me and laughed, "I know what a human is, they are ungrateful menaces who can't respect REAL skill!" The creature began yelling at me telling me how pathetic humans were then said, "If you want to know anything, then just call me by name." Then it descended back into the water. My mind was just wondering for abit; I didn't even realize that the commander was calling me trough the loud speaker.
"What is it?" I asked Commander Cherry. "The Water Wizard, his real name is Issac Tyler. You may want to read this." He showed me an article from a newspaper from 1979, it was an article on a person that claimed he was able to control water. The paper read:
"Issac Tyler has been entered into a mental institute today by his nephew Bill Smith. Bill will now be taking over Tyler Enterprises while his poor uncle is receiving treatment.
"Mr. Tyler claims he is able to control water with some sort of psychic telekinesis or something of the sort. It wasn't until after he returned from his tour of Asia that he started publicly telling people he was able to control water. According to scientist Le'bardo, 'He claimed to control the molecules in the water. When we asked him to show us, he started staring at the water; we were able to see small micro vibrations in the water, but it was most likely caused by the vibrations on the table or his own breathing rather then his mind.' We were not able to get an interview with Mr. Tyler himself, but we were able to interview his ex wife, 'He spent all of his time starting at that stupid glass of water like it was going to do something! He wouldn't spend time at work or with the family, he really believes he can move water. I hope they are able to cure him!'
"It wasn't until he started calling himself 'The Water Wizard' that something needed to be done about this delusion. Mr Tyler is now in Mt Midrock Mental Institute and will receive electric shock therapy for his illness."
Everything made sense, could this creature in the water be a more human Issac Tyler? I needed to find out! I ran back out to the deck and started calling The Water Wizard by name -- Issac Tyler. As soon as I yelled that name, everything shook, I heard a scream coming from the water and that huge face reemerged. "WHAT DID YOU CALL ME?!" He yelled. "DID YOU JUST CALL ME ISSAC TYLER?" I was abit scared now, I was hesitant to answer him, but I pulled everything I had in me to say it. "Yes! Aren't you?" The face in the water began to sink, and a pillar of water began to rise. It looked like a Greek column. Out of the water-pillar came a more human form of this wizard. He looked ragged in his late 50s, but still held a powerful presence.
I tried to talk, but he put his hand out, he told me to shut up; he wanted to tell his side of the story. He began to speak slowly and gurgled, such as a older man would speak. "Yes, I am Issac Tyler. Before we go further, how did you know who I was?" I answered by holding up the paper with the article about him in it; as soon as I did that, he extended his hand, and an arrow of water flew past me piercing the paper and bringing it to him. He began reading it and laughed, then cried. "So," he went on, "This is what your going by? Do I look crazy to you?" He raised his voice, "IS THIS A VIBRATION FROM A TABLE?" As he said that, a huge wall of water formed behind him. He went on, "I guess if I stair at a cup of water for thirty some years, something more then a vibration would happen right?" The wall of water went down. "Let me tell you everything that happened." He sat down on his water pillar and began to speak again.
"I am Issac Tyler. I use to be a very rich and powerful man. I was CEO of Tyler Enterprises, the company I founded, and by the age of 20 I made my first million. When I was 23 years old, I went on a tour of Asia. While I was in India, I found a Mystic who could preform telekinesis, I asked him how he got that power, and he told me that anyone could use this skill. I spent the rest of my time in Asia there. He told me that there were many different skills a person could learn; I told him that I only wanted to learn one, and I would put all of effort into that one skill. He asked me, "If you wanted to do anything in the world, what would it be?" He told me that even flying was possible, but I told him I wanted to learn telekinesis on water. He said that it wouldn't be too hard to control water, so he taught me how to start controlling water with my mind.
"Once I came back to the States, I told my family what has happened. They kind of just looked at me, and I could tell they were humoring me when they said they believed me. I really could control water though! I know the only thing I could do at that time was make the water shake, but I knew with practice I would get better. My goal was to show the world this skill, the power I had, but nobody would believe me! I started spending more and more time practicing, trying to get better! After a week or so of practice, I was able to make very small waves in the water. I may of had one hour of sleep each day, the rest of my time went to practicing. I tried to show people, but they still didn't believe me! I think I drew the line when I started calling myself The Water Wizard, because soon after, I was thrown into the mad house!
"It was my nephew who did me in. I ended up in the mad house, and he ended up with my company. that place was a nightmare! They would tie me up and blast me with shocks yelling at me telling me that I couldn't control water. I kept a strong mind, and I was able to make it though until the day I was able to escape. On that day, I was scheduled for an electric zap again, I didn't know if I could endure it anymore! That's when I saw it, an open window in the cafeteria! I ran as fast as I could and jumped out that window! I just kept running until I saw the water, then I jumped in and swam as much as I could.
"I was finally able to make it to the shore on the other side of the river. Once on land, I kept running, to afraid to look back! I couldn't get caught if just kept running. While along the shore, I saw a boat, it was only a small rowboat, and the river was faster then running on the land, so I jumped on the boat and started off into the river. After an hour of paddling, I saw the end of the river, drained into the ocean! I tried to paddle back but the current was too fast for me; before I knew what happened, I was sent out into the ocean, and the shoreline slowly began to fade in the horizon.
"I was stranded in the boat for a good four days until I saw land; it looked like an island. Without thinking, I jumped out of the boat and swam to shore! It took me afew minutes; I was too tired to swim, but somehow I was able to get from the boat to land. Once at the island, I looked around; it was paradise. There was a clean freshwater river, endless fruit trees, and the beautiful ocean. I loved that island, and I decided I'd spend the rest of my life there. I built a shelter, got some water, and finally, I started practicing my skill to control water.
"I've had about thirty years to practice this skill, and it's the only thing I do. I wake up, eat, practice controlling water, eat some more, practice more, go to sleep; five hours later I do the same thing again, every day, all day! Now look at me, am I crazy? I don't think so. I told everyone all I needed was practice, but they pushed me aside; I don't think they would say that now! Do you?"
I was shocked at his story, if he's telling the truth, this could revolutionize mankind. So I asked him, "Why not come back with us? I'm sure they would believe you now!" "It's not that simple," he replied, "If I come back, they will find another excuse! But now I have a plan! If I go to back to the United States, or anywhere for that matter, people would either fear me and try to kill me, or try to disprove me; I'm not going to let that happen. So last year, I thought up a plan.
"El Niño is coming in less then a year! I plan on fueling fueling storm to wipe out countries! The survivors will follow me after I am able to use my skills to not only stop the storm, but to clear away the flood waters too! The people who didn't believe would either be dead, or will have no choice but to listen me!"
I couldn't believe what he just said! Everything I thought of this person for a moment shattered, and I did the only thing I instincts and reflexes told me to do for my country. I pulled out my gun, aimed it at him, and pulled the trigger -- I missed. By looking at his face, I knew this was a grave mistake. I didn't care at this point, so I asked him, "Your going to kill everyone for revenge? That's your big plan?" "I don't have to kill everyone! I don't want to kill you; I like you," he replied.
By this point my gun (along with every gun from my crew) was aimed at his head. He just smiled and asked if I was really going to kill him, then he sank into the water. I could see how he was able to breathe now, after he sank, it looks like he carved an air tube with him. I was thinking about shooting into that tube hoping I could hit him, but before I could do anything a huge wave came and the boat flipped over.
Waves were everywhere, but nobody in my crew was hurt! The waves kept getting bigger and we started getting pushed towards an island. I yelled orders for everyone in the crew to swim to the island, which they obeyed. After afew seconds swim, we were able to make it to the island. I saw Issac; it looked like he was actually standing on bubbling water. He looked at me and said, "Welcome to my home. You will be safe from the storm here." As soon as he got done saying that, I pulled my gun out and tried to shoot him, but the water damaged the gun.
"I'm not going to let you do this!" I yelled, "Why don't we settle this ourselves?!" Issac just looked at me confused and said, "You don't have a chance against me! Why throw your life away like that?" I replied, "Why not have a friendly fight? First to tap out? If you win, you can make your storm, but if I win, you have to come back with me peacefully!" "Fine!" he said, "But we fight in the water!" I agreed and stepped in the ocean until I was wading about four feet deep.
"I'm ready when you are Mr. Tyler!" I announced. Just then a wave came out of nowhere and hit me, knocking me underwater. I re-emerged, looking around trying to find Issac; I saw him standing there. I ran towards him, but before I could lay a punch, he lifted up his hands and slammed them down again. As soon as he did that, water seemed to of came out of nowhere from under me, and it threw me about 8-12 feet in the air and slammed me down! Every time I got back up, he would take a step towards me and have the water push me back down. It looked like he could actually make his own currents because he never swam but he had the water push him from one area to the next, so he kept dodging me.
I stood up and looked around, I could see the beach about three yards away; that gave me an idea. "Try and catch me Mr. Tyler!" I yelled to him. He just smiled and tried to throw more water at me. I started running towards the land. "You think running from this will land you a win?" He said while walking towards me. Wave after wave kept knocking me down, but I just kept squirming towards the beach. With him right behind me, I jumped to the sand and fell. He looked at me and laughed; then he said, "You can give up, or I pound you with the biggest wave you ever saw." As he was still in the water, there were rapid surrounding him and bubbling everywhere like a hot tub, but as soon as he stepped out of the water it all stopped. He raised his arms looking at me with a grin, and smashed them down as he would to summon a wave -- nothing happened. I couldn't believe it! As strong as he was in the water, he was just a normal person without it! His grin slowly faded into a nervous look, as he began to turn around to head back to the water, I side-winded him with my fist as hard as I could, knocking him out. By this time, we were able to see a rescue boat in the distance, so we shot of a flare and waited for them to come over. The Water Wizard had a nice dry trip to his new home, a high security prison.
Once we got home, the military was there to thank us; being a Navy man, I never much liked the army because they would never listen. I told them that they need to keep Issac away from the water, the Lieutenant General asked why, and I told him, "Because that man can control water!" Needless to say, I was laughed at by them. I followed them down to the prison Issac was going to stay at, they told me that he would never escape. So that was it, Issac Tyler was in prison and the world was saved?
