Depends what the file format is and what the dimensions of the avatar you are using are. Another possibility is that the image is a large file and the forum software doesnt support it.
I suggest resizing yours and maybe changing the file format to a gif (use imageready and the file size decreases dramatically)

Well it happened first maybe yesterday (before that it was fine)
so i changed it
and it showed the new one
but later on, it switched to this.. or that.
EDIT: Can you see my avatar?
EDIT II: If I re-enter the avatar URL, it shows it... at least for now.
