4) @hotmail.com or other addresses will be spelled out like "(at) hotmail (dot) com" So if a spammer could get through the check point, he would have to change all of that. Won't help, I could get around that in about five seconds. Not that I intend to spam you guys or anytihng. ^_^I forgot to respond to this... Darin is completely right. I could create a bot in ten seconds (literally) that could do this AND email the people. Frankly, there is no real way around it. If someone is planning on putting their email on the internet, they take the risk of spammers. I think JediKaren is letting me make this the way I thought up, so I know how to protect from hackers and attackers. Now that I think of it, it is impossible to protect fully from spammers. Here is why: example email: bob@place.com. Attempt #1: bob [AT] place [DOT] com Exploit: Script that replaces " [AT] " with "@" and " [DOT] " with "." Attempt #2: bob@place.com1 (and next would have 2 at end of next email so you cannot just replace one thing) Exploit: Script that uses subscript command to find ".org", ".com", or ".net" and deletes everything after it. Attempt #3: bob1@place.com Exploit: Script that finds last character before "@" (or that counts up to work with two digit numbers) and deletes them. As you can see, there are unlimited number of "Attempts" with an equal amount of exploits. There is no use in trying to protect against that.

This is a official Technical Announcement of Directory CTO for all dir users. If you can't access the Directory, try accessing A State of Mind or The Tassadar Archive. If these two websites are not working also, here's the reason: sometimes my providers servers could be attacked (hacked, cracked) from specific networks, therefore these networks are being blocked for thirty days counting from "attack" day. Ergo, you may belong to such blocked network, then you need to wait or try using proxy. Another thing: Asia is officialy blocked from access due to the high spam from there and I can't do anything about it as long as Directory is staying on my server. You may try to use proxy. Last thing: if you have noticed any errors (blind links, bad css, something is not working blah blah) please report it to me. The first huge system upgrade is near, so any reports now will be very helpful. Thank you. Tassadar T. - Psions Directory Chief Technical Officer
