healing.about.com/cs/empathic/a/aa_toxicemail.htmThis article, I thought was really good. It deals with how to avoid picking up different emotional energies hidden in emails people send you. (especially those forward chain mails) According to the article, the computer seems to capture our emotional energies and send it out to others we send mail to. The sender is not aware of this, but the reciever ends up being bombarded by any negative energies attached to us when we first composed the email. An example would be typing me typing an email to someone saying, "Happy New Years!" but right while I was typing , my father starts screaming angrily at me and calling me an idiot. Suddenly I am feeling stressed out, angry and defensive, but I still click the "send" button while stressed out. The person who receives my email will also receive the negative energies that were there in me when I sent it while angry. Even though the message says, "Have a Happy New Year", an empath can feel the negative emotions unconsciously attached. All your other friends who are not empaths will not feel the negative energy, but they will , nevertheless, still be bombarded with negativity attached to that email . The article explains it far better than I am explaining it, and also gives tips on how empaths can deal with hidden energies sent through the computer.

hmm I don't buy that. The words have to be angry before I'm going to pick them up. "Happy New years" wouldn't have me pick up hidden anger there. Don't trust everything you read.

I think intent comes into play here.
Yes you may have been feeling stressed when you sent it, but the intent of the email was to wish somebody a happy new year which is a positive action. Thus I don't believe the negative energy would be felt as much.
Hate mail would have a worse effect as the intent behind the email is negative.
I believe the strength of the emotions received by the empath also relies on the strength of the connection between the sender and the empath. A connection is formed through communication but the strength of that connection depends on how good the relationship between the sender and empath is, so, if you were the empath and a random friend sent a chain mail giving very little thought to you specifically, I doubt you would feel a whole lot.

Hmmm, good points. I wonder if there are people who can actually pick up stray energy like that--- maybe not from chain letters then, but from a personal friend. That would really be a torment for someone sensitive to that extreme.
The article was interesting, but thanks for the grounding advice, Jedikaren. It's best to not buy into everything these articles mention.

especially since these authors I doubt know a lot about empathy and psionics.

That's what I was going to say. And, what about everyone else that does send the emails? How can they attach them if they know nothing about it?

1) I believe that the author of that site is pretty fluffy, from what I have seen. Here site is more spiritual that psionics (which is more scientific...sometimes).
2) I don't use 'pure' empathy for anything any more. I use a mixture of empathy and telepathy. So I will get the intent of the feeling (...well...sometimes...). At least...I would know that they weren't angry at me. I would know they were angry at the boss, or neighbour or something.
