Telepathic Suggestion Ethics

A while back I wrote an article about telepathic suggestion. I figured maybe it would come to some use here on the forum.

This isn't the end all no nos of telepathic suggestion ethics. These are just my opinions and I live by these rules everyday. You can choose to adopt them or not, I am not here to lecture you and control your life. Just think of this as food for thought when you come to the crossroads of using your skills and talents for good or for evil.

As you may already know, telepathic suggestion is when you telepathically suggest to someone else a thought, command or emotion. Basically, you are influencing them to do what you want whether it is beneficial for you, for them, or for someone else.

On PsiPog, there are has been much debate about the ethics surround TPS; should you use this ability, should you not use this ability. It’s a very difficult issue to discuss because there are so many different angles and spins you can put on this and it’s very hard to come to a general concensus.

As for myself, when you use telepathic suggestions, I believe you are taking that person’s freedom to think and make decisions on their own. You are manipulating them to do something without their consent. (There may be incidents where it was with their consent, but I will go into that later.) I believe that NO ONE has the right to take that inalienable from ANYONE, unless they got consensus from the person.

I do believe there are times when people forfeit this inalienable right though. If there was someone that wished to do harm to me in ANYWAY, rape, assault, murder, and other negative things, I believe that I have the right to protect myself from any negative onslaughts from others. I would not just sit there and let mess with me like that and I don’t expect anyone to let that happen to themselves either. No one has the right to do me harm, unless of course I did something harmful to them.

Now here’s a spin on the discussion. What if someone came up to you and said they don’t like a certain part of their personality and they want to change it but have gotten no success. You tell them you can help them by telepathically suggesting the change they want. They say yes and this equals consent. So I think in this particular situation since they are willing giving up their freedom of choice (in a sense), telepathic suggestion would be an appropriate step to take. If the telepath overexceeded their mandate and decided to mess with the person a little bit is UNACCEPTABLE. Overexceeding what the person allowed is violating their right of freedom of choice and is obviously unacceptable.

mmm... yes very true. There are various methods used to change a person's personality (with their consent of course), hypnosis and telepathy included. However, still the most tried and proven method is psychology. But TPS without consention is violating that person's rights. It's no different from rape.

Freedom of choice.... Human Rights.... this is very deep and interesting. If only I could do it, then it'll be more interesting... *sigh*... but I'm looking forward to this

Ya one of the interesting things about the whole discussion is the question of the lesser evil; are the means worth the end result? The only thing I can relate it to in our modern days is the question of warrantless wiretapping on American citizens. The warrantless aspect being the lesser evil and the greater evil being not saving American lives by not preventing terrorist attacks.
I didn't mention this in the original article and I believe it's something important to think about.
I don't really know what the best TP ethic is but these ethics I follow whole-heartedly because I feel it's important. I wanted to talk about it because there are newcomers to Psionics on this website and many are young. If you are one, you need to look at this for what it is and play around with these ideas in your head. I'm not trying to make you believe the same things I do, find for yourself where your ethics lie and come to the conclusion intellectually and in a mature manner.

I object on your definition of telepathic suggestion. There is a clear difference between telepathic suggestion AND telepathic coercion.

While telepathic suggestion is a subtle push to make the person do something he/she will most likely do, telepathic coercion is the contrary; obligating the person to do something that goes against what he/she thinks, often done for someone's benefit or with the excuse of "that is the best for him/her". Clear difference, my friends.

There's no way you'll progress if you don't practice. Especially skills as useful as TPS (Telepathic Suggestion) and TPC (Telepathic Coercion).

Just out of curiosity how would you lot feel about suggesting something that would benefit the person though without their consent. Say for example you see someone walking along and they drop their wallet. How many people would think it ok to suggest they look round or check for their wallet (or even be very subtle and suggest the noise or feeling of their wallet falling out of their pocket)? Obviously in my example you could just go up to them and say you dropped your wallet but imagine that wasnt an option (say you were on a bus and they walked along side). Despite not having permission from the person involved how many people feel this would be acceptable?

Let me make a statement that I've made previously, over and over again. I know there are some people that won't agree with me, but when you look at it from all angles, you somewhat arrive to this conclusion.

To the world and normality, thoughts are private business. They aren't to be tampered with and they cannot be tampered with. To a telepath, thoughts are fair game. They can be accessed, opened, read, manipulated, suggested, etc. When we talk 'telepathy', we change and look at things from a 'telepathic' perspective. So, if my answer didn't come across, then plainly furball, it is yes, I'm comfortable with someone doing that.

Well i would say follow the Gowlden Rule
Do unto others as you want done unto you

if you think you would like another person suggesting/ coercing you in a simmilar situation in a simmilar fashion then i suppose you can do that too.

I do know some people who have used their advanced telepathic abilities for harming others, in time though a stronger practioner has come along to give that person the taste to their own medicine.
