If you lie still for a few minutes, pretty soon you'll start hearing a high-pitched noise coming from inside your ears. The origin of the sound is unknown, but if you're able to hold your entire concentration on it for about three minutes (according to Robert Monroe), the vibrations will suddenly rush in, and will take less time than normal to hurl you out of your body. Of course, you can't think about anything else while using this method, even after the vibrations start. You have to entirely focus on the noise until you successfully separate. I'm having a hell of a lot of trouble with this method, but some other people might be able to get it to work effectively.
Also... if you've never tried binaural sound files before, you could always give it a shot. They work by playing different tones in each ear, creating a beat frequency of the difference between the two tones when your brain reassembles them. This effectively forces your brain to operate at the beat frequency and state. This technology has many applications, but it can be used to induce astral projection by playing a mix of alpha and theta beat frequencies. This sends you into the "mind awake, body asleep" state described by Monroe as ideal for astral projection. Unfortunately, I'm unusually tolerant to these specific forms of binaural files. They work great on some people, but not on me. >_< I have close to a hundred of these types of files, but only maybe twenty to induce astral projection, and only three or four small enough to send via email. If you're interested, however, feel free to contact me either by PM, email, or IM, and I'll be happy to send a couple to you. Note: these files absolutely REQUIRE HEADPHONES! That's the only way to get 100% of the proper tone into each ear. You also have to set the left-right speaker balance to a perfect 50-50 if playing them on your computer. Most computers will have this set up by default, but some people like to tweak these settings if they have surround-sound. ^_^
