I joined psiworld about a month ago, and lurked around for about a month and a half. In this time I managed to gain a lot of valuable information that has helped me alot with my AP practice. A lot of things are making sense to me now and my desire to learn more has turned my world upside down.
My entire point of writing this is to ask what else I can do to learn, but first let me tell you where I am at.
My practice goes like such:
[you]Weekdays[/you]
1.)Wake up by alarm for school. Write down any thing I remember about my dream. This is very hard on weekdays because waking up by alarm is so impulsive that is right away throws what ever vague memories I did have out of my head. If I do remember something its normally by association to another thought I had. Get ready for school and then go to school.
2.)After school I do about an hour or more reading on the subject of AP while on the chat.
3.)Then I try going through the process of APing, I do this laying on my bed. I do this until interrupted by my parents for dinner(normally about a 2 hour period) Depending on how I feel I sometimes take a nap if I am exhausted from the day, and in that case I just do the same thing as I do for when I go to bed( explained later)
4.)I get my homework and studying done, if I have time I may read or take a short break from practice to do what ever I feel like.
5.)I then go to sleep. Before I go to bed I write anything down I forgot to right down earlier in my dream note book. I have a problem with remembering my dreams(although I have had a lot of improvement compared to how I was) so I go through a process of repeating lines like "I will fully and vividly remember my dreams" 50+ times. I then blink a lot followed by tensing up various parts of my body; I have heard this helps stimulate REM sleep.
[you]Weekends[/you]
1.)These are much more dynamic when it comes to scheduling. Many times I am doing things with friends, service work or something else that is taking up my time. If I don’t this is usually how my day goes.
2.)Wake up without an alarm and try to take hold of as much of my dreams as I can. This is sometimes a lot or none. I then go back to sleep to sleep in for a few more hours. When I wake up then, I write down any dreams again and then do an AP practice for as long as I can keep focused or until I am bothered by someone to do something.
3.)I then to my normal wake up routine (shower eat ect.)
4.)Then I will usually do some more reading and go onto the chat to see who is on for an hour or two.
5.)Next I get done any goals or desires that I have. I might play a video game, hang out with a friend, mediate, work on a project, ect
6.)I then if I have time usually do another AP practice if I find that I am in the mindset to do such.
7.)Next I eat dinner
8.)Lastly I stay up for how ever long I feel like doing what ever I want at the moment. When I am tired I go through my night routine.
Well that’s my daily schedule. By doing this I have had some success in my AP practice. I changed my technique from when I first started. I first focused on just letting myself fall asleep and the tried to amplify the floating feeling until it felt just like I was floating on air, and then convincing myself I was in another place. That worked fairly well, but I could only get to the point where I felt like I was floating on air. Now I use the ear ringing technique, doing nothing but focusing on the ring and following it through my mind where ever it goes. This has worked, and it has brought me to the point where it felt like there was nothing left but the vibrations to come. I had my body asleep and I followed the ringing to a very low alpha-theta state. For what ever reason the vibrations never have seemed to set in, occasionally even though my body is completely numb I feel something I could only call a spasm but it never last more then a second. I don’t have total control over total focus on the ringing yet, but I do have times when I have focus for a long period of time.
-A side note on AP practice. I have found that the most distracting thing to get over is that while I am focusing on the ringing my mouth seems to salivate. I either then am far to aware of the fact that I will soon need to swallow my spit or am jerked out of concentration when I unconsciously swallow.
The other thing is remembering dreams. When I wake up now my progress has been to before not have any idea of if I ever had a dream or not, to feeling my dreams slip between the cracks of my memory as I wake up. I occasionally am able to take hold of one, but it falls apart and I am left with a fragment of memory normally; sometimes a large fragment or sometimes a small. I know I have dreams, but they slip away the chance I get to try to remember them.
Well that is my status, this is where I am. I have a lot of great things to say about this community with the amount of help I have been given so far. I am doing everything I can to learn to AP, and I know it is very important to my life that I learn how. A lot of events in my life have pointed me in this direction and I have finally taken the initiative to acknowledge them. I now ask if there is anything that anyone can add to what I am currently doing: a new technique, schedule, or even a comment on how I am doing; please do tell.
Thanks a lot,
