Well, I was trying it last night, and I managed to get to get to the very relaxed state that is optimal for ap, blocking out all sounds and other activites, etc. Not very hard. Then I visualized a ring, large enough to pass over my body, about seven feet above me. Once I got this visualization nice and clear, I "watched" it slowly move down and pass over me. I did this over and over, and eventually I started to get this strange almost shaking feeling in me, but not like it was affecting my body. It was like I could feel it coming, but it never did. The more I did the ring visualization the stronger it seemed to get. I also started to get this strange floaty feeling, like I was hovering in the air, maybe.(I found this strategy on the list of 30 Ways to get ot Higher Vibrations.) Eventually I was interrupted and I didn't really get a chance to try it again. I'm kind of worried about my strategy being acceptable, because most people say that hey visualize themselves out of their body, and they end up where they're thoughts are. Does this sound like the start of ap (ie. did I begin to move into the vibration stage?) or is this just some strange side affect of my visualization?

there's no wrong method. everybody has their own like everybody else. i feel your pain man every time im about to leave i hear a distracting noise. by the way i did get out once for about 2 minutes till i slipped into dreamscape. i was in a place called the jade temple, there i met a man who looked to be of asian origans and had a long flowing white beard with a red robe with strange runes on them. we had a conversation but i remember none of it. i also met a man who was WAY buff with a white goatee who taught me psionic combat.(since this isnt allowed here i wont speak of it)
been trying desperetly to get back i feel i have unfinished business. i am so stirred by this place that my mindscape is based on it. the knowledge i gained there i put into every construct i make, i have so much to learn.
its defenitly the start of an ap, you just got to flow with any noise that comes in. i learned to do this with an altered focus meditation that used the noise to make your focus deeper until i got deep enough so that i longer could be bothered by the noise. try turning the tv to a tv show you watch often and have seen before, then hear the niose and try to put pictures to them. like your internal tv program. if your in a room where everybody is talking make a soap opera. after you get okay at this(no need to get perfect, just enough so that you can get around niose) try to ap your way but if niose starts popping up then go ahead and use it.
