Should we be allowed or shouldn't we, to get free music on the web? What's wrong with file sharing? Don't the millionaire singers have enough? If people had to pay for their music they would probably not get what they pay for and unable to take it back after their money has been spent. In other words here's my stance on downloading music: cristgaming.com/pirate.swf

Sharing - The exchange of objects with no beneficial results for the sharer.
Piracy - the exchange of objects with beneficial results for the "Pirate"
So my view on Music Download is do it but if you sell the work of other artists without a contract with them is illegal. Piracy is against the law and if you break the law you go to jail and jail is bad.
Love the Video ;D

Back to the topic: Even though it's illegal many people face no jail time at all for downloading music. Just because it's illegal doesn't make it right or even wrong for that matter. It was once illegal for a man and a woman to live in the same place together. It was illegal because it was a big moral no-no. The same applies to all laws, if society sees it as no big problem or even a good thing then laws will follow.

You may not get put in jail but a lady down the street form me got fined thousands of dollars for downloading music like 10 years ago.
I know musicians.who have had their music stolen. No not all of the millionaire musicians have enough. Nickleback (if you know who they are) are actually pretty poor. Well ok upper middle class, but that shows that not all of the musicians are millionaires. Even the really famous ones.

I don't call it piracy anymore. I call them ninjas. They're not pirates, they're ninjas! that's me changing the world.

I could understand where they are coming from, you know? Muscians needs to make money for all the stuff that they do. But I think we've all pirated. Now I'm really against when you begin to share 'n stuff. But again, how is it different from when we make copies of CDs we own and begin to start handing them out from our friends? They really can't track that (or at least in my mind they can't). I don't mind if I download music, because I know I am going to be using it for my listening pleasure. I'm against selling it though. that's wrong, you aren't the original artist, etc.

*watches video and siezures* That was an awesome video. As far as piracy goes...as long as you don't get caught, nothing is illegal. But if people are stupid enough to do it and get caught, then all I can say is, they knew what the consequences are. File sharing in my view is ok, because nobody is making money, and singers have more than enough already, so on the singers. In terms of piracy, no I don't myself commit piracy, but I am a frieking pirate and I love it (personality wise).

Here's another issue to add in, though. Look at the 30's, when Alcohol was made illegal. The result was not less alcohol. It was more alcohol, on the black market, and not safe because it wasn't regulated. Not only that, but it made everyone a criminal, because everyone did it, and as a result, everyone had less respect for the law.
The same thing is then happening with Pirating Music. A whole lot of people are doing it, and to call it illegal creates a black market for it; creates a whole lot of criminals who would otherwise not involve themselves in crime; and makes nobody respect the law anymore.
By the way, New York City was recently considering a law saying that it's illegal to cross the street while listening to an iPod, because apparently a lot of people get hit by cars since they don't hear it coming.... Personally, I think if they're stupid enough to not look both ways, they probably deserve to get hit. Survival of the fittest, no?

Sharing music in my view isn't illegal. We purchased the music, so we have the right to do whatever we want to with it, unless directed otherwise by the record company/artist. Piracy, however, is illegal to me. If I had a CD, or downloaded music, then wanted to sell it to 10 of my friends for 10 dollars each, that's piracy because I'm selling something someone else created. Sharing Music: Unlawful, Not Illegal Piracy: Illegal

tyler we aren't talking about if their music is good or not, it's just an example.
And yes piracy is illegal in my view too, like the site livewire for instance, i hate that site. Any site where you by mp3's, unless it is made by the artist, is usually illegal.
