Greetings, all ^_^
Scenario: While at a family gathering yesterday, I told a cousin about my college search and an invitation I recieved from a big school. I was exited about it, but I was used to the information so it wasn't a big deal. Well, when I told my cousin the news about the invitation, she became extremely exited and happy for me, ect. While i was telling her the details, I became really jittery and light headed. I am a natural empath, so this usually happens when there is a sudden strong surge in emotion around me.
Question: How can I keep this from happening? I know there is a way to "ground yourself", but I haven't been able to find out how, exactly. Any tried methods or advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Or you could put a sheild around you to take excess energy (or in your case empathy) from you.

try centering. it will alow you to know your emotions form other people's.

How exactly would you "center" yourself? Is it similar to meditating? Sorry, this is all new to me ^_^

I find it easy to use the method Vodith said. Try 'pushing' all the excess energy into the ground and out of your body. Always seems to work for me

i guess its kinda like meditating. it could be part of your meditation. i dont really do it, but:
when your calm, be quiet, and think of how you feel, think of why you are feeling like this...... and stuff like that. search it up in google. i think theres and article on it on psipog

Same as JK wrote. -And you can make construct if you are good enough in making tham. -Make it to be like a Pac-man, a ball that eats (in this case energy; every particle of energy that is bad for you; like too much energy, bad energy, bad feelings, too strong energy etc...) and floats around you in a safe distance (1-2m away so if it can't eat the energy and blow's up you can't get hurt). Program it to feed on that energy and leave positive energy around. With all that bad energy around as it is for now you will be able to maintain it without much giving energy and everybody around you will be happy (well, at least that is how it is around me ). - I hope I helped

Thanks ^_^ Then here's another one: Which exercises do yo uall use to keep your senses sharp (as far as empathy goes), other than meditation?

One way to ground is imagining your feet growing roots into the earth and sending our emotions/energy that way. That's how I do it. Mostly my shields are good enough.

- Exercises? look at the articles at the firs page, you will notice one that has exercise that can move energy sensing out of your body little by litte. And for all the rest you can find things that need one sense especially; image for sight, voice or melody for hearing etc... And doo that thing more and more and more and you will see that your abilityes are developing. Some things just need exercise. So my suggestion is : - Explore -Train -Train -Train -Train -Explore --Train -Train -Train -Train

when i'm experincing an overload of emotions i look at one person and try to concentrate on there emotions and usually everything else will go away and i'll just have that one persons then i put up a sheild
