We are very close to a thousand and we're all very excited, but I have a bit of bad news. We have 260 some members who have never posted. Some of these people have dead emails. Others have never activated their account. Some haven't looked at the site since they joined and joined over a year ago. All these people need their account deleted to keep our number a real one. I expect 50 people to be deleted from those. Then I will email the 200 left, asking them to get active or have their account deleted with their permission. There are a number of people with only one post who will be asked to post a bit more or delete their account.
I know you all want the 1000 and part of me does, but when I think of a newbie joining and seeing a thousand, I can see them easily being scared off. So we need to make sure that number is a real number, with active people.

Yeah, because we need true active members, not just accounts that just sit there and do nothing. If no one has posted that joined a year ago, I don't believe they would ever come back, but if they do, they could make another account.

Yep I agree and I've been disappointed in the past when other sites don't do this and they've got over 1000 members and only about 50 do anything.

I would say that's correct. I think that people might be scared to join our community. But, if that's the case, they don't need to. They have almost all the rights that we have as members. We have just a few more. They should like our site, it is a great site for newbies and for experienced psions, in my opinion.

Why should we lie to ourselves with people that aren't even their? The number really doesn't matter to me at all, or I don't think it should. I think this forum should be about learning and having fun, but not trying to be the biggest. Although, it would be nice.

lets give the thousandth member something special.. like a blanket party.. or a construct that pings you "hang in there baby" ok, enough of that..
maybe you could make a main post that everyone has to post on and closes in 4-5 days, everyone that doesnt post gets deleted? too harsh?

Ya just a tad harsh. Just get rid of the dead apples as you suggested that havn't been fruitfull and plant new seeds that will grow stronger.Your site doesn't get ratings from accounts but traffic by the way. Invite your friends or make flyers to boost your ratings. But remember weeds will always overcrowd and must always be attended to.

This may be a tad bit complex but..
Have a user count every month in the news section. People post there to stay they're still on. The accounts who don't, get deleted after a seven day period. Some exceptions of this are if someone posts that they will be away for a couple of months or years, and cannot access the board. Everyone should get mass emailed about each one of these so that for those who check their email more then their PM's can know this is happening. It may bring some currently unactive members on too.

Sounds a little complex, but I think it's necessary for this forum.
