Why hasn't psioncs hit mainstream culture yet?
I think that most people don't even know it exists. I always thought there were psychic who were mostly fakes and a few real ones out there who were natural born types. It took me a long time to learn about psi and even longer to find a reliable non fluff site. But I think it's bound to happen sooner or later. I've seen Wiccan in newspapers, as well as Scientology (Thank You Tom >.>) I think that if psionics hits the mainstream culture then it will be from a celebrity. It's still probably a rare chance that that will happen though, since it's not really a religion >.<

Maybe it's better off not bieng out there.
Actually it probally is better off. There is an underground world revolving around MetaPhysics. They TRY to keep it away from you, and I actually agree with them for the most part.

I know. They don't introduce it to us because they probably know what we and they can do with it. And I agree with them. There are many evil people out there that could learn this, and use it for their benefit. But, the thing is, we would be ready for it. Since we know a little good bit about it, ourselves, we could protect ourselves. I think that the government already uses it to help interrogate people.

Most psionic site like to grow, like every other site out there. I surly would like to see more practitioners out there. That way we could learn new ideas and techniques.

I think it IS better off not introduced. If someone wants to learn to posses psychic like abilities then they will have a light bulb go off and research.

Mainstream?
For one, far too many people are critics or doubt its existence. I'm staff and I'm skeptical about a number of different things. The problem is that many people tend to ascribe or relate occurences to the first metaphysical thing that comes to mind, particularly dieties, as follows:
"God, WHY ME?" "Lord have mercy" "Go to hell." "You read my mind!"
Things such as superstition become self-fulfilling prophecies, that is, if the event expected DOES occur, you instantly become a believer. If it doesn't, but does maybe next time, then you attribute the first failure as a metaphysical fluke of nature.

To do with what Intrigue said.
You only see what actually happens.
A thing can happen a 1000 times but the 1 time that something is 'strange' people go to the metaphysical aspect of it.
People need to look at what DOESNT happen as well.
Also, the people that do spread psionics are either Fluff Not so good at it themselves Mysteriously Stop - This is what I mean when some may say "They wont teach us, so i'll learn and teach everybody" Then once they truly learn, they will hear someone say that same thing as the cycle continues. Can't seem to spread it

Guys, Psi, in certain forms, actually is out there and being used quietly by certain parts of our governments.
I remember seeing a newspiece documentary a few years ago of a retired guy who worked for the secret services (I believe FBI or CIA) who now teaches private classes on telekenisis and Remote Viewing. He mentioned how the FBI uses these two psi skills to track down drug dealers, or federal criminals. He is very skilled in both of these skills. He said it was a very depressing dark job., and much rather teach the average person how to learn it for more fun, uplifting motives.
It would be interesting to do a Google search on this to see what we can come up with. I would not be surprised if the government trains thier agents on all of the psi skills. It gives me the creeps in a way, because certain parts of our goverment are not exactly very warm hearted kind people. Put Psi skills in arrogant , natzi-like hands, and you may have a potential concern for abuse of power. Think Tazer guns with a more sinister twist.

If it did hit the mainstream, everyone WOULD be spreading around fluff. They would be like, "Dude you can kill someone with psi in like 1 second if you're a noob." Or try to get you to harm yourself with it. I just think that it's better that it's "underground" and that only those who have been told should be known about it. The results would end up in everyone hurting everyone else, and bugging those that know more about psi than they do to teach them.

Yep and I bet they asked this exact question: "Was he tipped off? Or did he use some supernatural force to help find where the weapons were?"
They want to disprove everything we've got to throw at them because they know if we know about it, then they'll be officially, Royally Screwed. They don't want it out there because what it can do.

Yes it is better off 'undeground'.I don't think all people are supposed to run into psionics. There has to be skeptics/non believers and believers. Or else it would just be off balance.

Just to play the devil's advocate here:
Even if it is underground, is that necessarily beneficial? If every scientific discovery was secreted deep within the earth's bowels, the leaps in technology that we enjoy today would be nonexistent. As a matter of fact, this board would never have been created if not for the collaboration of individuals who first began to research and devise world-wide networking. Will psionics be passed on alone, never truly changing, rarely with new discoveries-- if an idea is passed on solely be mentor to student, without room to devise and conquer new, territories, then discoveries must be made anew each and every time.
One step forward, two steps back. Your presence here is more than enough to prove that psionics is not necessarily underground. This is, essentially, a fully public source of information for any individual who cares to do so. As far as it goes, psionics is hardly what I would call 'underground.'

If it was made public the fluff and junk would multiply a thousandfold. Think about it. If this were to happen the following things would result: -There would be millions of commercial, 'Master blowing things up with your mind! Only $999.95 per year or $90 per month! First weeks free!' -The fluff and junky sites and things on the internet would take over everything else and true metaphysical sites would be hard to find. (Watch psiworld go to the 100th page result in google being topped with, 'Learn tk in a day!', 'Magical Crystals of Healing', 'New! Astral cars!') -Doctors, with the new DNA technology out, would be advertising surgeries that will allow you to be a master telepath, get claws like wolverine, etc. while actually giving you a drug that makes you feel like your doing it, and when it wears off they sell more of the 'rare' vitamin C's to you so you can recharge your ability. ..etc.. -Prices for crystals, wiji(sp?) boards, 'crystal balls', and the like would double, or triple. -There would be plush psipets in all shapes and sizes. (Some wouldn't consider this a bad thing but still. ) -Astral Tooth Toothpaste: Improve your astral smile by using this new toothpaste! (Really a normal tube with fancy graphics) -Neopets? Pah. Say hello to astral or psipets with waay more attributes and options. -Second life will be replaced with astral life making others forget about the real astral world. etc. etc. Basically if the commercialists found out that metaphysics could make a huge profit if 'properly advertised', they would literally brainwash most of the population, worse then they are now, into believing false things until real metaphysics is left in the jungle to rot, and everyone can be totally controlled by the government in power. And you thought finding real psions was hard now... . .. . Anyway. I think it should stay this way. Since most people with the right mindset are usually the ones who find these sites or discover the things on their own then search for any sites having to do with it. If it was made public to everyone sooner or later people would get brainwashed or it would all be considered even more fluff then it is already viewed as and pushed 5000 more km into the dirt. Leave things as they are people. Yeesh.

Psionics is a broad term. What Intrigue said is right, most people doubt its legitimacy. The thing I don't understand is why more people who practice Psi haven't came out to the public. Doing stuff like Magneto does(lifting cars up with your mind) would be a very long shot at best and that's with decades of practice.
