Yesterday was certainly interesting to say the least. Scythe has a new apprentice, Jamass. I talked just a little to Jamass and he had read some of my posts and liked me. He wanted to learn how to move the psi wheel. So it was time to go into teaching brand new newbie mood again. This is what I do on my site btw if any of you are wondering.
Newbies, for some reason, want to be able to do the hard, cool stuff like making paper move or seeing there psiball. What they don't understand is you can't do that if you don't know what the Force (psi) feels like. So the first step was to see if Jamass knew what the Force felt like. The answer was sorta of. He could uncontrolibly feel the Force. Generally that's a sign that getting a newbie to feel the Force won't be hard. You just have to make them feel it consciously. So I copied and pasted this that I wrote some time ago on my site:
If you answer no, then continue reading this paragraph. If no, you may want to read this anyway or go to step 2. To feel energy please do this. Think of a song, one that is calming. Play it through your head, or turn it on, but quietly. Relax. Stop thinking. Stop feelining. Do try to do anything. Just sit there and enjoy the moment of peace.
If you are one of those who can't sit still or be quiet try taking a breath, holding it for three seconds and then blow all the air out and then breath in slowly. Repeat until you're calm.
Now I want you to stare at air. Try looking at the space between you and your hand. Sure you won't see anything, but that's not the point. Don't strain yourself. Just space out a bit. Let the music help you. Now pay attention to what you feel. Do you feel something around or in you feeling warm, tingly, good, possibly like your blood is rushing, but isn't? If yes, that is psi, energy. Good job. You have just felt psi.
Sadly enough this did not work on Jamass. That happens a few times and had happened that morning with another newbie from my site. This is where I get stuck because I really only know how to teach it one way. Yes, I know this is not a good thing for a teacher, who should be able to explain it many ways. Scythe gave it a try and we found out that Jamass can see auras. That's very rare for such a new newbie to be able to do that. He could see blue, which Scythe said that was the Force (I didn't know that) My master continued to work with Jamass and me trying to get Jamass to feel the Force more. Scythe had to go for a little bit and left me with the newbie. I did not want this, but had no choice. I could no leave a newbie untaught and plus my master had given me this task to continue teaching.
I talked Jamass through making a psi ball before he said that the energy was trying grey and then black. Oh, NOT good. That meant he had lost focus and had quickly lost his grip on the Force. There goes my teaching skills. I told him to take a few minutes break, worried that I have overloaded him or tired him out. He said that he had to leave for dinner, which would be a great break for him. Then my bf came over to save me from a horrible day of english class (god I hate hate hate hate really bad jerk, too big ego teachers).
When I came back online I was more tired. Jamass was trying to get the wheel to move again. (arg newbies) So I tried to help him since Scythe wasn't on. The problem was I didn't know how to explain becoming one with the paper and I didn't want to use those words to a newbie who had just consciously felt and gathered the Force. At the same time I was moving the psi wheel to try to help me teach. My own control was not good. I could get the wheel to move, but not stop or shake. In the end I was dragged away from my 'puter *cries* by my roommate who insisted that I go to this make friends party thing.
When I came back I tried again at the wheel and found my control getting worse, along with me getting even more tired. I went to the bathroom and realized something. My control over the wheel is slowly getting worse and this would be the forth time it's happened. I go through a burst of tk practice that lasts for a week general. I will reach a new high point of control and then go downward until I can hardly get the wheel to move and will give up for a couple of months.
I told Scythe this who said that it's my high expectations. If I can't make them I get dissappoint and I fear dissappoint, which makes it all the worse. Depression settled into me which is really bad because depression is much stronger and harder to shake off than any other emotion. I talk, more like spilled my guts out to Scythe and cried a fair amount. I finally went to bed a bit early, some how my roommate never noticed I was crying.
Today I feel a lot better. I'm not tired or depressed. An ap Jedi and I had a long chat about me and my abilities. I need to set short, easy goals that can be easily reached. Like today I am to get the wheel to move and that's it for practice. The next day I can do something like get the wheel to move a quarter of the way or something. I can build my way back to getting the wheel to shake on command and eventually to get the wheel to float.
